The "Haye is to small and not a natural HW" excuse that is starting to gather pace

Foreman was considered a monster because he was bigger than nearly all the fighters he was fighting IN THE 70'S!!!!!!

Same was Louis was considered a monster in his day because he was bigger than near everyone in his day.

The year is 2012 and 6'3 and 212 lbs is a very small heavyweight.

People like the Klitschkos didnt exist in Foremans time in boxing.

How many lean 245 lbs 6'6 guys who could box were there in the 70s??

Thats right....none.

 

So we should abolish weight divisions?

 

So how do you think Lewis/Klitschkos would fare against Louis, Marciano, Ali, Foreman, Holmes, Tyson?

 

If you are 200 pounds or over you are a Heavyweight. If Haye thinks he is too small he should have stayed at Cruiserweight. Thank god fighters like Jack Dempsey and Mike Tyson didn't run because we would have been robbed of some great fights and savage beatings.

Being the "smaller man" does not give you an excuse to run the whole fight. It doesn't work that way.

That would be the worst thing for Haye to do because then he would have to step in the Ring with Dr. Iron Chin and we all know (including Haye) what would happen in that fight.

 

Beat the absolute **** out of them for the most part.

The same kind of outcome if a 2011 NFL team played their counterparts from the 60s.

Or how a 1950s basketball dream team would do against their Modern equivalent.

Tysons and maybe even Holmes are a litlle different in that he is quite modern,although we all saw what an older Lewis did to him.

Phsiques get better in time and so too do skills. The "skill" shown in Jack Dempseys fights is about the same as a modern toughman contest.

 

So the Klitschko's would dominate that era then? Your argument holds no weight.

 

If Ali was around today, he'd toy with both Klitschko brothers.

 

back in the 30's when Ernie Schaff died after losing to 6'6" 260 pound primo carnera - there was a campaign to have a dreadnought weight class for super heavies to avoid anymore physical mismatches , it came to nothing though because unlike today when the modern heavyweight is huge compared to yesteryear - back then the only big heavyweight who was a draw at the box office was Canera !

Haye is almost identical in height and build to Max Baer who destroyed the giant Canera - who was himself considered a big heavyweight by the standards of the time - to use the excuse that Haye is too small is a poor and lazy argument.

At least you are consistent. What's ridiculous is those who say both that the modern division is so bad compared to the fighters of the 60's, 70's, and 80's and at the same time say that Lewis and the Klitschko's are too big for regular sized heavyweights. Can't have your cake and eat it too.

 

I guess Holyfield was too small and not a natural HW neither because he was smaller than Haye when he moved up.

 

So 6'6-6'7 guys like Ernie Terrell, Joe Bugner, Chuck Wepner, Gerry Cooney didn't exist. Weird

 

Funny that only Banks and Glazkov are 6'3 and everyone else is shorter than Haye. 6'2-6'3 range and 220-230 seems to be the norm and alot of these guys would be around 215 if they were in as good a shape as Haye.
