Primo Carnera is as big as Wlad...

very sad of his recent passing but i'm almost glad that sir henry cooper was not alive to watch haye's pathetic performance today. actually, everything about haye sucked. his pre-fight talk, his ring performance, and his post-fight excuse. it's criminal that he made over $15 mil for that fight. he'll always be looked at like a joke now.

 

If Haye retires he will be remembered as a joke in the boxing community.

I don't think he will now because of just that, and I'm hoping that this will light a fire under his ass. (That's probably just the optimist in me though).

Would love for Haye to fight a contender like Chambers or Arreola and then take a crack at the Adamek-Klitschko winner for redemption.

 

NO today PRimo would be just a solid journeyman...Actually though his skills were a little underrated.. But despite his impressive Ko record,,he really wasnt a big puncher,, Even against the `180 to 200lb hw of the 20s,30s,,... I know ive read articles on some of his past opponents, who were not impressed with his power (George Godfrey one of them)...Primo Carnea is physically one of the strongest hw ever,but that didnt mean he could punch. Back then maybe only a slightly better than Avg puncher,, today he wouldnt even be an average puncher...Carnera had a lot of heart but didnt have the greatest chin either....

 

Save your breath...or your fingers.....people find Wlad boring and non charismatic, so it does not matter if you have made a valid point, most will simply overlook it!

 

Very first round, Haye tried stepping (springin?) in with his fastest jab, and Wlad reacted by moving out of the way. That's basically when Haye should have gone balls-to-the-wall pressure for however long he could do it because the chances of surprising Wlad with a counter were long.

Wlad could see the punches coming. Even the hooks to the body, all five. Credit to Klitschko, but Haye deserves the scorn he gets. Where was his determination? His desparation? His willingness to die to be crowned heavyweight champion of the world?

Bah.

 

I have been saying that Wald and Vitali have underrated footwork, defense, and ring generalship for years. The Klitschko's use their skills and size to the maximum, forcing their opponents to confront it as often as possible.

Carnera was big, and a reasonably good athlete. However he lacked the skill set to keep guys off him, and did he have top end power. One thing Promo had in abundance was heart. I could see Primo in the top ten today.

 

Everyone criticising Haye has never boxed or a clue about the sport - FACT. Haye didn't have the skills to get the job done, just because it wasn't a Rocky film doesn't mean he didn't try, I suggest WWE would be the sport for you

According to those who watched the fight Haye didn't have power to hurt Wlad when he landed, or balls / heart to press the action when he was down on points. Is that a fair criticism?

For what it's worth I agree with the OP to an extent, Haye fought to not get stopped rather than giving his all to win. I don't understand how anyone could watch that fight and say he gave his all. He just didn't. He swiftly realized it was too big a job, and reverted to Shane Mosley mode, trying to make it look like he was competing but with all efforts concentrated on survival and safety.

God bless guys like Erik Morales who would rather get into a dogfight busting a gut to try and turn the fight in his favour than skit around the ring apron throwing stay-busy punches and willing to get to the bell unscathed.

 

Hopefully, i would love to see Vitali* unleash his hatred on Haye, i doubt it would go the distance. :ko

He certainly hurt Wlad with his right when he landed it. He didn't have the skills/tools to press the fight

A question to anyone saying 'Haye didn't have the heart'. What adjustments should Haye have made - I know, do you? If you know the answer you'll also know why Haye couldn't 'show heart'

 

Another person that hasn't boxed, answer the question above, tell us what adjustments Haye should have made to 'show heart' or actually get past the jab, I know do you Popkins?
