If Wlad were the fighting opposition of the same size and ran into a strong guy with handspeed, very good fundamental skills, and some good/decent pop, then he'd have to take some sustained punishment in there. Judging by the 16 years I've been studying him, he'd have more KO losses on his record if that were the case.

Tonight fight was ****, but Wlad is very good at using his size advantage to negate his opponents offense. The key is to use what works to keep you on top. Wlad (as well as Steward) knows that he can't take a sustained amount of punishment. There's just no one out there who has the tools to put him under some adversity, but props to Wlad for making it that way. Guys like Valuev don't use their size advantage to the fullest in order to avoid taking even a single punch. Wlad fights like he has ZERO faith in his ability to hold a shot upstairs.

Comp-wise, Wlad either fights small guys with limited HW experience (blown up Lt. Heavies/Cruisers) or a big, slow, lumbering sack of **** that wouldn't even be in the top 50 in past eras. There are no legacy fights or defining bouts on his resume for a reason, even though he's had a successful boxing career. His losses, and how he's changed from an entertaining fighter into a deer caught in headlights, were his true defining fights.

This still doesn't make Haye any less of a fraud. He proved he could take a HW punch with flying colors (imo) but he did not demonstrate any skills that warrant him being such a pre-fight threat. If this was a legacy fight, then both guy's have no legacy. They both played a part in this letdown.

Wladimir Klitschko gets paid a helluva lot of money to fight. That's why he should keep fighting. He can sell out soccer stadiums in Germany/Europe, so people still want to see him in the ring. He didn't give USA fans any reason to treat him the same, but hey, they've been tuning in to other sports besides boxing for a very long time.

The bottom line is, this fight made Wlad even richer. He's not complaining.

 

Probably not exactly the same way, but he would also be even faster, more agile and have more stamina. In this scenario in fact he may never have lost to Puritty or Brewster due to exhaustion. He would also be a vastly different fighter who may just throw more combinations and have a greater punch variety due to necessity.
Also, considering you don't really pay attention to things that are common knowledge or common sense, I would like to point out to you at this point that Wladimir has fought in his career guys who were his height and who also outweighed him.

He cut the ****ing ring off impressively. That was a masterful display of how it should be done. I just knew he was going to take Haye's head off. But then....nothing.

Nothing but disappointment. At least he got the W. I gotta go get bent before I even watch this fight for a second go. :-(-(

I can't fault Wlad in this fight, and I was rooting for Haye. His team said they were gonna bring something new and they did. In the 1st half, he brought head movement, pressure, and was fluid for such a big man. I was impressed. He nullified Haye's tools. This was one of the better Wlad performances. Yes, Haye was lighter but he can punch, and of course Wlads face was gonna show some marks. Wlad did get hit with a few big punches though, but haye didn't do **** to put more pressure on him. Overall, I'm disappointed with haye, since he could have done more. That toe issue, Idon't even know if it was legit or not, but I didn't want to hear that **** as an excuse.

A lot of credit to Wlad and Steward for this. Him and Wlad have perfected that style and Wlad is using it to his advantage perfectly. there's no one that can beat him out there. Haye had the best shot.

If Haye was more than hype, the size wouldn't have mattered.

 

The other problem with creating an exclusive super-heavyweight division is who is going to fill it? If such sizable and competitive opponents existed wouldn't they already have worked they way up the ranks organically by now anyway? People have suggested the same with MMA. How many guys out there training MMA are as big as Lesnar?

 

You make a thread saying Wlad got "busted up" and all he had was a cut under his eye? No matter your view on the situation, even though I thought Vitali would have beaten Lewis had it gone on longer, Vitali got BUSTED UP! That is what it means to get busted up...Not some small cut under your eye that started in round 2 or 3, and never developed much more.
As for the size difference...Haye could have came in heavier if he wanted. He wanted to be lean, quick, and be able to move so he didn't bother. It's his choice if he wants to move up to HW and fight bigger guys (he did good against Valuev, Harrison, Ruiz, Barrett thus far). He signed the fight against the 240 pd Klitshko. He even made the choice to fight with a messed up toe. He fought, he lost.
Wasn't even that bad of a fight IMO. He threw more punches against Wlad, while having a messed up toe, than he did against a much less dangerous opponent in Valuev.

Besides, if you want more reason as to why size doesn't matter that much...Just check out the other CW that moved up in Adamek. He's beaten much bigger guys than him. Of course your going to have to come back on here after his fight with Vitali and talk about how Vitali was waaaaaay to big for him. Of course size does play a role, and it's hard to overcome the size difference against a guy who knows how to actually use his size against you, but this is why they have training camps, videos, etc.
