Saturday night. Wlad was too good, too accurate with his jab and ,what surprised me very quick with it too. Haye drew the leads by going back ,not by slipping and countering ,he was reduced to throwing desperate swings that rarely troubled the big man.On the few occasions he managed to land his right, Haye showed glimmers of what might have been if he had been able to follow up . Wlad was just the better man ,his precise boxing found the Brit time and again, Haye far behind on points settled for circling out of range and throwing a few sporadic rights that hit air.A one sided points defeat was the result. I was impressed with Wlad's speed given his size and age[35] . Haye showed he had a chin absorbing a few good right hands ,this did not particularly surprise me as the shots that had him in trouble before in fights were landed on the temple, not the chin. I have only watched the fight once ,and will probably take another look later today ,but I discount Haye's toe excuse , if you are in there at the start ,you are fit to fight, broken toe or not he was not good enough to overcome the Ukrainian's physical advantages, it's that simple. Haye came out richer and wiser with very few options left to him now.Wlad looked as good as I have seen him ,more aggressive than usual, with no discernable signs that age is catching up to him. Haye talked the talk ,but could not walk the walk. ,and I have egg on my chin.
Haye's problem is that he needs a lot of energy to sustain his rapid head/body movement. In the meanwhile, he can only afford to throw a maximum of 30 punches a round without gassing. It takes two to tango and Wlad can hardly be blamed for having trouble reaching a man who was running a night, save a few aggressive runs. Although I had a suspicion he'd run and occasionally potshot, deepdown I'd hoped he went all-in. The other thing that surprised me is how well both took each others best right hands. Although the action was sparse, both men did land HARD right hands but nothing happened. I do, however, think many underestimate how hard it is to fight Wlad, let alone look good against him. He's constantly reaching and throwing that 5 mile jab and is very good at staying off the ropes, for a heavyweight. And when you get close, he'll grap you. It's going to take a special fighter to beat him and besides his brother, I don't see any current heavyweight or even an upcoming heavyweight with the tools for it. Wlad is showing signs of aging, but with the current division, I don't think it's a stretch to say that he can celebrate his 40th birthday without losing a fight. I also hope that Vitali retires, so that Wlad can take over the entire division. Unfortunately, I don't see Vitali retiring any time soon.
In the immortal words of Flava Flav. Dont believe the hype. Haye fought the same way against Valueav and Ruiz, what made you think he was going to turn into an offensive monster against a much better opponent? It's inconceivable how a guy could talk that much **** and fight like such a ***** but it happens. Haye should go retire with Naseem Hamed. Haye really didn't show much of any kind of skills. His punches were off balance and sloppy and he just overall is not a good fighter. Just an athletic guy with a little speed and a big mouth. So long David maybe he broke his toe from sticking his foot too far down his throat.
The problem with Haye is that he's a natural counter puncher, he can't lead for ****, the few times he did try and pressure Wlad he definitely made him uncomfortable, but Haye looked so uncomfortable doing it himself. And when he did manage to slip the jab and get in range, Wlad either grabbed and leaned or used his superior footwork to get out of range. All in all I would say it was a disappointing performance from both guys, I feel if Wlad had cranked up the heat he could have gotten Haye out of there. And David falling over every 5 minutes was just embarrassing, that was Booth's surprise for Klitschkos leaning?... really??
I actually thought the plan of taking a knee everytime the 250 pound guy leaned on him was a great idea to offset that ****. People dont realize how much energy that saps out of a fighter, and the natural reaction is to try and stay on your feet and support all that weight, so Haye instantly going to knee was a great idea and it seemed to work. The problem is Haye took it too far. He should have realized that he actually got Wlad to stop doing it, and gained a point for it. I think in the future, fighters should use this tactic against Wlad to keep him from doing something thats as bad as landing a low blow. It really saps your energy.
Yeah that's what I mean, in the end it just got repetitive, I mean he was falling over in about every round.
My mate bet £50 on it going the distance with no knockdowns. Did one of Haye's dives count as a knockdown? The ref did a count.
Your mate might have been cheated out of the win then. I assume the count makes it official knockdown.
I thought Haye was going to go for it but as we all know its easier said than done. Certain fighters look beatable and its not by luck that they keep winning. I was impressed with Vlad's speed and perfect defense as well as his underrated foot movement and improved ability to adjust. Both Haye and Vlad also showed underrated chins because there were some clean shots landed. I think Haye knew when rd 1 was over that this was no easy task ahead of him and if he Jack Dempsey'd it and came out and flushed it he may end up on his bottom quickly. Both men were skilled but Haye was way over his head and fought a survivors fight. I also thought Haye ( i believed Hayes hype) may be able to produce some sparks and bring out the best in Vlad but Povetkin may be the one to press Vlad and make a war but go out on his shield either-way Vlad has improved and is building his legacy, he is a hard guy to beat and is always conditioned and has improved his ability and mental strength. I think we will see greater things from him if he had a Foreman or a Frazier or a Holmes to fight
I dont know how anyone could use Wlads performance against Haye to raise his legacy for any other reason than taking his title. Haye never proved he was any good and Wlad just exposed him for being fraud. Haye really didnt show much skill in that fight regardless of what Wlad did. He cant counterpunch, he throws wide loopy punches with unbalanced footwork, and he cant seem to put any kind of combinations together. He can move his head and move around the ring, but thats about where it ends.
I feel that Haye should payout, for robbing him. :-( I see what you mean lefthook... David Haye's Heavyweight Wins: Nikolay Valuev, 36 years old (controversial decision) Monte Barrett, 37 years old John Ruiz, 38 years old Audley Harrison, 39 years old Tomasz Bonin
Good analysis but I disagree with it being a bad fight for both guys wlad fought a perfect fight and isn't getting enough credit just for not getting the KO. This fight is very similar to Pac-Mosley imo(not the feet excuse and false knockdown ) in the fact one fighter fought negative continually backing up with the other pushing the action on the front foot. The difference being Haye was a much liver opponent than a shot Mosley, this was seen by many as wlads biggest test and also seen by many that he won every round. Mannys fight with Shane was seen by 90% as a walkover.
