James Toney one the best ever!!!! Nothing but respect for the fellow Michigander!

  2. The stuff on his twitter has mainly been retweets... but the blog he wrote is horrendous and made me cringe more than once.

Rafael needs to get it under control

Rafael's toe puns are quite good.
Is that what people are getting uspet about ?

EVERYONE should be ridiculing Haye for his shitty performance and his shitty toe excuse. :deal

Haye's been acting superior to all the other Klit opponents and disrespecting the whole HW division.
He talked himself into a huge payday and disgraced himself.

He can **** off and live out his days with all his wealth somewhere.

You guys are such a bunch of ****ing drama queens. For one, Dan DOES have a blog. Secondly, there is absolutely NOTHING unprofessional about trashing a fighter, in fact I'd go so far as to say that it's far more professional than to shilling for the ****ing network when you have paying customers viewing a broadcast that is nothing more than a goddamned **** show. Merchant TELLS IT LIKE IT IS. That is what I want from my commentary crew. I don't want a bunch of fake enthusiasm when I can see with my eyes a fight is dog ****.

while it's ok to have an opinion as a journalist, Rafael is also ESPN's most top boxing reporter and his opinions too often overshadow his news stories. Once he has a certain opinion of someone, his articles from that point on will have a noticeable slant and he loses credibility as a result.

Rafael reminds me of the comic book guy from the Simpsons, only more douchey.

It's truly amazing the hypocrisy of Haye fans who criticize Rafael for this ****. Would be nice for them to man up and admit they were horrendously wrong but instead it's attack anyone who tells the truth.

Haye fans, should Haye's performance be applauded by HBO, Rafael, etc? I'll hang up and listen.

What the **** was wrong with Haye's preformance. You guys act like he came into survive. He came in looking confident, boxed beautifully at times, making Wlad miss like an amateur. Yes he lost the fight but not once did he look like he only came to collect a paycheck.

He could be better at containing his bias, I will grant you that. However, this is often the case with all writers, sports or otherwise. For example, Tim Smith of the New York Daily News is, in my estimation, a Mayweather jockrider and a Pacquiao hater. That seems blindly obvious if you have read his stuff. And that appears to color what he writes and how he covers things. And it seemed to get him in trouble on the infamous "Pacquiao non-email" fiasco. Then it looked like he had to suck up to Pacquiao afterwards to get back in his good graces, because Pac is now the kingpin of the sport and Smith couldn't be on the outside looking in if his beat is boxing.

I haven't yet seen Rafael get caught up in a "Pacquiao non-email" scandal. So, I'll give him more credit than Smith, who I believe is named in the Pacquiao defamation suit vs Mayweather.

Needless to say, Smith's credibility took a massive crash after that debacle.

I completely agree. But you have to understand -- these people want it both ways. They're doubly hurt emotionally: "Their guy" got his ass kicked AND he is getting called out as a punk for his trash talk. That is, now he's having to pay the bill for what he said. And his fans can't handle that situation; they're struggling just with his getting dominated by Klitschko. They REALLY can't deal with his getting verbally clowned as well. No, no -- verbal taunting is supposed to be the thing that Haye does to other people. It's not supposed to happen TO Haye. So the thinking goes.

This stuff happens all the time. The whining, that is. It's embarrassing, but not unexpected.

He ran and fell all over the floor, and lost every round except maybe one. What the **** fight were you watching?

Haye got "his ass kicked" and "dominated"???

I think we were watching different fights, I remember Wlad holding on for dear life in the 12th round.

I didn't check out the tweets but the story is pretty much along the lines of what others are writing. Haye has to be criticized heavily because of the buildup. If he had been respectful and lost, he would not be criticized hardly at all. There's no shame in being beaten by a superior fighter.

Haye was dominated in the fight. He fought in spurts, trying to steal rounds and stay on the outside. He mounted no offense and I can't recall him throwing a single combination in the bout. He did what he could, but it was woefully short of the mark.

It was like Mosley vs Pacquiao. People thought Mosley made Pacquiao look bad, but Pacquiao dominated the bout. Same thing last night.

Wlad got mad in the 12th round after Haye hit him. If Wlad fought like that the whole fight, Haye would have been KO'd.

Wlad kicked Haye's ass. He easily handled Haye, who was in retreat the entire bout. It was embarrassing to watch Haye run as he did and not engage, fall down, etc.

The Daily News is nothing more than a tabloid, though. There's a difference here. While ESPN has plenty of shows where sportswriters can express their true opinions and biases, as ESPN's main boxing writer, Dan should attempt to keep it more down the middle. It's okay to express your feelings once in awhile, but when those opinions bleed into every article on a specific subject, you are injecting yourself into the story and that's not good writing or reporting.
