JMM ducked Naz, citing money as an excuse

Following the Bungu fight Hamed finally offered to fight long time WBO number one challenger, Juan Manuel Marquez. Marquez turned down the fight saying that he wanted more money. Hamed finally fought Augie Sanchez. Sanchez was a very hard puncher and a skilled amateur who once beat Floyd Mayweather. They engaged in a war in which both fighters were stunned. Naz finally won by devastating KO in the fourth round which left Sanchez in a stretcher.

Hamed was supposed to fight the winner of Barrera-morales, but offerd the fight to barrera because he felt he was the real winner of there first fight.

Hamed got rid of his title and opted to fight Marco Antonio Barrera. At the time, Barrera was coming off a stunning fight with Erik Morales that was considered to be the fight of the year. Hamed offered to fight Barrera, saying that he felt MAB was the true winner of the fight, and most of the boxing media agreed.

Marquez ain't the type to duck, neither was Barrera or Morales. They all have losses for a reason, they all fought the best, they would not be scared of losing to Naz, so ducking would be pretty unnecessary as he was bringing so much cash to the smaller weights.

Marquez never "ducks" per se, but he does turn down fights for whatever reason. And Barrera fought him at what should've been his pinnacle, it was Naz's fault he went off the rails.

    Funny

    They are the same age

Barrera turned pro 3 years earlier than Hamed

Barrera had about 20 more fights than Hamed

Hamed was undefeated and Barrera had a war with Morales

Hamed was past his prime? :huh

The whole past prime Hamed thing was judged that way because Hamed gave up using his skills at what... 26? He switched to Tyson mode and relied on his power only and clowned around for most of his fights when he hit the bigtime. The excuse doesn't fly because it wasn't age that deteriorated him but Hamed's focus and ego.

Hamed was never passed his prime, he just thought he could knock everyone out and depend on nothing but his power. That's the way he was though, that's what made him exciting. No one can convince me that boxing would be any better without his contribution to the sport, no one.

People on here are too negative about the sport, most of the time you have about 2 threads on the main page worth a serious read, the rest is ****ing bull****.

Hamed did bring excitement and I'll be the first to admit I thought he was going to do better than he did against Barrera. After that fight though, I knew Hamed would not be the same. He was driven by ego and Barrera took much of Naz' confidence away in that fight.

I know Marquez turned down the fight, claiming they were trying to lowball him, but he wasn't well known back then and had no big fights so he really should have taken the opportunity. He could've done what Barrera done and become an instant legend, and the big fights he cried about not getting would've fallen into his lap. Marquez has made some odd decisions in his career, turning down the immediate Pacquiao rematch for 750K to fight Chris John for 30K also baffling.

And MAB did fight him a year after the Morales fight, so that wasn't a duck. MAB ducked no-one

The reason why Hamed chose MAB was because he had already shown vulnerability in being KTFO and losing to Junior Jones,.....that and MAB was moving up from superbantamweight. Hamed did'nt consider MAB strong enough to trouble him.

As for who ducked who as far as Hamed and Marquez is concerned???? Hamed twice petitioned his title sanctioning body to bypass his mandatory (Marquez).

......pressure was building as to why Hamed was avoiding Marquez that in order to stave off some of that pressure, the Hamed team along with the help of HBO who loved Hamed, made Marquez a lowball offer and to boot was giving Marquez just a few weeks notice for him to get ready for Hamed.

......of course the offer by Hamed was meant for it to be rejected, as it was only a public relations ploy to fend off some of the criticism of Hamed for having twice before petitioned the sanctioning body to bypass Marquez the mandatory challenger.

Hamed and HBO were in cahoots to make it seem that Hamed was making Marquez a legit offer, but now far removed from those shenanigans, the HBO broadcast team have admitted that Hamed was the one that ducked Marquez.

Simply stating, its common knowleadge in the journalistic boxing fraternity that Hamed ducked Marquez.

.....and to be fair to Hamed, he was'nt the only one. Morales and MAB ducked him as well. Hamed just did it more shamelessly.
