Why don't Brits attack the body?

Seriously, I can't recall a proper English fighter (I'm sure you're going to give me examples, mostly of people who were on the Euro stage and didn't make it high enough to get my attention) who was ever an even average body puncher.

I was in England some years ago and went to a fight card and I could count on no fingers the number of body punches that were thrown. I spent some time in a gym in Manchester and never saw anyone throw a body blow in sparring or even work the "torso" area of the bag.

Is it illegal in England to throw punches to the belly? Immoral? Or just considered in bad taste?

I don't see how this is remotely accurate.

Presumably when you were in Manchester you didn't see John Murray or Anthony Crolla in action.

I'll grant you Hatton, but he's obviously an exception.

And I was in Manchester, as I said, some years ago. John Murray and Anthony Crolla were probably fighting in sandboxes at the schoolyard.

So perhaps there are a couple of recent vintage, but England's been in the boxing game a long time. Did they just now figure out it was legal?
