Thought I would make a thread for those of us who went to Hamburg to see what you made of the weekend and if any of you experienced the problems that I did. Did anyone else have problems getting away from the Imtech, couldn't get the train and there was no obvious buses going back into the city so me any my mates ended up walking before finally being able to flag a taxi down but only after walking through the rain for around an hour and a half. We got back to the hotel at half three, soaked. Overall I had a pretty poor weekend sadly, few things just went against us. Also how bigger mongs were most of the British supporters in the stadium. Dear god they were an embarrassment to this country, chanting German Bomber chants, making references to Nazis's, throwing their cups down the stands, pissing in their cups etc.
Would hate to have to go watch Hamburg play every week as it takes a year to get to the stadium with everyone bustling in. Saying that, Reeperbahn and the weigh-in on the Friday made up for a crap fight.
I went over there, we drove from Brum, to Dover, ferry over, then upto Hamburg, got to the Reeperbahn about 1pm, there was some carnival or something going on and the place was rammed, went to the London bar, where some of the Brit fans acted like total pricks, and at one stage some woman was almost being molested, the usual beer throwing etc, inside the arena, the German bomber song was sung lots, never heard any nazi references though, after the fight we left and got on a shuttle bus, which could have been like Hillsborough the amount of people who forced their way on to it, this took us to the U Bahn station, where it was pissing down, and we had to wait ages for a train back, with drunken idiots running over the track to avoid queuing, overall though I had a great time with my wife and mate, and I werent gonna let a few drunken divs ruin it for me. It was a shame about the result too, we set back home at 3am and arrived in Brum 7pm last night after a couple of stops for the driver to get some sleep, overall Id do it again but fly over, I love Germany and the German beer.
From what I saw on Sky there were lots of ******ed Haye fans in the stadium who looked like they were let out for the day.
Good to hear that you had a good time, how long did you have to wait for a train? I was in the queue for half an hour or more and there was lots of people walking back from the front saying that nothing was happening and the British fans were beginning to try and push to the front, so we gave up. In hindsight that was probably a bad move. Where was the bars you went to, we went to Hamburg city centre during the day and didn't see anything obvious and around the stadium there was absolutely nothing.
The brits were an interesting bunch...there were a few who thought they were in their own personal main event at times trying to start fights, but you'd get that anywhere I guess. Thought Hamburg was quite decent tbh and the Germans fairly welcoming- the parade on Saturday was quality! Ended up in some irish bar with hundreds of Germans singing along to 70's german music. Getting to the stadium was fine but was a ****ing nightmare to get away- ended up walking to the station as the bus line was massive. Decent weekend just shame bout the result at the end of the day.
I was sat next to a bunch of Leeds fans who kept chanting "we are the Leeds Scum" "Ingerland, Ingerland, Ingerland" "10 German Bomber in the air" and persistently made stupid comments like "knock the ****ing nazi out" "wlad is the **** brother" "**** him up" "Haye will beat him like we beat the German army in WW2" it was really embarrassing. The Germans next to us moved which speaks volumes.
Had the exact same problems getting away from the Imtech. Walked for ages and then still struggled for a taxi.
It added to the discontent that was already brewing before that. All in all though, the weather, the fight and the inability to get away from the stadium were far bigger detriments to the weekend then those twats, they merely added to a pretty **** weekend.
It seemed nice enough, big city centre, nice shopping, good buildings, and other than before and after the fight the taxi service was very good. We made some mistakes though which made it hard to get a feel for the city. First and foremost our hotel was in City Nord, which was a business district that had nothing around there and was absolutely miles from the City Centre, so getting to the city centre was a struggle. We didn't get a chance to see what the nightlife was like because we arrived so late on Friday and were so far from the city centre that we couldn't easily get in and for obvious reasons after the fight. It could have been a good weekend with better weather and decent organisation after the fight. Right now I'm feeling very frustrated about the weekend but I'm sure you will have a great time, just cross your fingers for good weather and don't make the mistake we did of staying in the middle of nowhere.
I think we're staying central anyway and I hear the reiperbahn is good for night life. I'd imagine the shitty weather didnt really help matters and the fact that the fight went tits up too....
I had a great time guys. The VIP ticket was definately worth it. Every type of drink you could think of was flowing and food plentiful. Beautiful women as hostess' everywhere and i mean everywhere. Spoke to Malignaggi, Conteh was mobbed when he walked through the area. Kalle Sauerland, Niki Lauda and god knows how many German celebs all mingling and having a great time. Absolutely superb :happy:good This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected
