I don't agree that boxing is dead. This year alone has already produced some quality fights and more are on the horizon khan-judah froch-ward vitali-adamek mayweather-ortiz pacquioa-JMM I'm looking forward to all of them and more........boxing is alive to me
In the last decade: Barrerra vs Morales (Two of these fights were incredible. And casuals tuned in to see the 3rd) Gatti vs Ward (Atlantic City will probably never again see such buzz surrounding a trilogy. Many people believe the first fight to be the best EVER) Vasquez vs Marquez (Ok sure, not BIG on a global scale but the atmosphere again was incredible. Not really marketed but show these fights to a casual fan and they will bend over) Pacquiao vs Morales/Marquez (Marketed and sensational fights. The third Pac Marquez fight will happen in November and again this fight will be HUGE to a global audience)
You guys are in denial and thats ok because thats what die hard boxing fans do. They defend their sport to the casual fan without seeing the truth to the situation. Sure there are good fights scheduled to happen but will the product be good? 2 years is along time to wait for a fight to be made and that happens alot in the sport these days because of the promoters and the many different councils. We have the WBO WW Champion fighting the WBO LW Champion in November!:-( If that doesn't tell you how bad of shape the sport is in then nothing will. Where are the mandatory fights and challengers in the same division as the Champion????
boxers are making million dollar paydays left right and center. hell nah its not dying. You should've seen the crowd on Saturday. It was amazing more than half my friends follow the sport. They konw the fighters, the events, and a bit of history. Noone quite like me but still they know hamed, Barrera, Pacquiao, Floyd, Klitschkos, Hopkins, Pascal, the super 6, David Lemieux, Margarito, Cotto, Mosley, and much more. And I'm talking just normal sports fans, not hardcore boxing fans. Even the average person knows who the Klitschkos are. Even my dad knows the names Bute, Pascal, Klitschko, etc. I'm in europe and I texted this german girl that I know from 5 years ago when I was here. Told her I'd be in Hamburg on Sat but we could meet after. She's texts me back "Are you going to the Klitschko fight?" and she's from Munich!
Nobody knows these guys or whats going on with these guys!!! You can try but the conversation will last 2 minutes.
You may have 10 boxers total that can make a million dollars if that and its thousands of fighters in the sport. You guys are making excuses instead of addressing the many issues that is holdiing the sport back!!!
You are clearly stupid my friend. I am from Europe and soccer is nowhere as entertaining as American football. If you take any American sport it is way ahead of any European. Judges are better, it much more entertaining and they are way more profitable. US football has a 9 billion budget.
Answer the question i posed to you instead of telling about me one fighter in History!!!! I am talking about present day sir!!! What happen to mandatory fights and where are the challengers in these divisions???? The WW Champion should not be fighting the LW Champion period!!!!
The Truth Hurts and as you can see the die hard boxing fans do not want to face the truth about the sport they love!!!!
You do realise Pacquiao is not a natural welterweight himself? Weight in this fight should not even be the issue. On fight night both fighters will be weighing in at a similar weight Furthermore, fighters have been moving up in weight for decades in order to challenge for other titles. There is no problem in that, i dont see the negative side to doing that Henry Armstrong was a champion at lightweight and Welter at the same time...
A lot of the problem recently, from the British point of view anyway, is that the fights recently that have really crossed over into the mainstream have by and large been pretty pish (Haye- Valuev, Haye- Harrison, Haye - Klitschko, Hatton Mayweather was a decent enough fight but Mayweathers style is not going to be fully appreciated by people who dont know a lot about boxing) This is only going to turn people off. Boxing needs a Mike Tyson to come along and give the casuals what they want
