Do you think this is a fair top 10 MMA fighters of all-time?

 Of course it's a 'guess', it's my list. Therefore, it's my very subjective opinions. Nowhere do I pretend that this is anything else other than what it is, it's my own personal opinions, so you either agree or you don't, either one is fine. If you ever make your own list, you can choose not to include an ability grading then, but I chose to make one, and I'll make on next time as well, because for me it is an important thing to consider in order to make a list.

Did you actually read the full opening post, or just read the list part? I already said that the grades are not supposed to add up, I'm not working to a formula here, those two factors are not the only two factors under consideration when deciding on the list, there are other important things to consider as well (dominance through prime, losses through prime, tangible accomplishments such as titles won), but resume and ability were the two I chose to present a grade for.

Resume is the most important factor IMO, and GSP's resume is stronger and deeper than Silva's, so I couldn't really justify having Anderson over GSP in all-time terms. JMHO. (I prefer Anderson as a fighter ability-wise and to watch)

Great list but I'd move Anderson Silva above Big Nog & I'd move Matt Hughes town places above in at #8. Both comments were already stated by others & I agree 100%.

I think I agree with you guys about Hughes should be #8. If I could rewrite it, I'd reorganize the final three I'd have Hughes 8th, Henderson 9th and Liddell 10th.

I wouldn't swap Nog and Silva though. Although I think Silva had better ability, Nog's resume is significantly better than Silva's and to me that's what counts, it's the most important factor to consider.

as usual, great list popkins. :good

but i believe sakuraba is placed so high..

though saku was considered a pioneer back in the days, dominating the gracies and showing creativity in doing it. he was defeated by kimo(although heavier) who showed meiocre skills.

i believe shogun has a deeper resume and showed far greater dominance in 2005 when he walked through the likes of young cyborg, tough guy kanehara, reem twice, rampage, lil nog and arona. he went on to dominate great names like randleman, past prime liddel, a shot to pieces coleman and a prime elite like machida.. that's a very deep resume to say the least..

at some point he was even considered the top and best light hw of the world..

imo, shogun should be placed 9th or 10th behind liddel. sakuraba shouild be ranked at 10th or 11th in a tie with hughes..

but as i said, great list, nonetheless. :good

    Cheers man.

I am a Shogun fan, so I am really hoping he gets back to winning ways soon and solidifies his place in my top 10, because he's not far off now.

If the list was purely based on ability, Shogun would already be highly ranked in there.

its just sad that shogun has been plagued with off-ring injuries.

the natural talent, skill, athleticism and vicious style that he employed back in mid 2000s suited the pride rules and was considered revolutionary to some extent.

given a few adjustments and blessed with a healthy form, i believe he still has what it takes to get to the top again.

judging from his jones loss, undeniably, the guy has an iron chin.

and come to think of it, he's still 29 or 30. :good

    Agreed.

Shogun was patently overweight, sluggish and rusty against Jones, plus he wasn't sharp enough to avoid a flying knee in the opening seconds. That wasn't the real Shogun, we have seen him look dreadful after lay-offs before. Once he gets the Griffin win under his belt, he'll start to look more like himself again, and that means another title shot is inevitable.

A fully fit and razor-sharp Shogun would be an extremely tough fight for Jones.

The fighters on the Top 10 are correct but I'd probably change some spaces around, most notably Liddell and Wanderlei. Liddell beat better competition than the cans that Wanderlei was stomping, although Wand did **** Jackson twice who in turn raped Chuck twice. The LHW picture of '03-'07 was confusing because it was a stylistic carousel between Silva, Liddell, Jackson, and Couture but to clear it up between Chuck and Wand we only have to analyze their fight. They were matched evenly as hell but Liddell edged him out and therefore should edge him out on an ATG list.

Mirko for 11th GOAT is ****, however. The guy was a decent HW but he never won a major title and his best win was Barnett. He got his OWGP belt by beating up 205ers and as soon as he made it to the UFC he managed to **** on that entire legacy and he continues to do so. He was one of my favorite fighters to watch but he shouldn't be anywhere near a GOAT list.

With all that said, however, I don't even think the sport has been around long enough for a GOAT list. I'd say we need at least two more generations of fighters to really put the proper perspective on things.

Anyone at their level can sneak a sub in if a guy loses focus for one second or simply extends an arm half inch more than they wanted to etc.

Really? You mean people that train fighting techniques can take advantage of an opponent's mistake? Of course they can.

That's like arguing anyone at that level can score a knockout if the opponent leaves an opening for the knock out blow.

Silva finished Sonnen inside the distance. That is a lot more important than who scored more points, because the score doesn't matter if your opponent kills you. Without someone there to break up the fight, the choker can kill the chokee.

I was winning until that guy killed me is not a statement you'll hear from a fight winner.

i totally agree. the thing about shogun is that when he's on top of his game and well fit, he is relentless and break down opponents through his varied striking. rua's got an iron chin but ifever he gets to face bones again, he'd better improve on his defense..

    Really, anyone can do it?

The last time Chael Sonnen submitted someone was 'Tim McKenzie' at "Bodog fight Costa Rica" in 2007. Since then, he's been submitted by Filho, Maia and Silva.

If you had a brain, you'd work out that the reason he gets submitted and doesn't submit people is because he doesn't have high-level BJJ skills.

If he did, he would've submitted Anderson once he realized his GnP wasn't vicious enough to stop Anderson. Sorry, BJJ is a skill and Chael don't got it.

He's also very intelligent, as it was he and his team who came up with the right tactics to solve the Machida problem, which looked unsolvable back then. I believe a fully fit Shogun comes up with a similar plan to make it difficult for Jones.
