Why are fans of 'The Sweet Science' (Floyd/Bhop fans) slow to defend the Klitschkos?

    Holmes vs "Tex" Cobb
    [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LZROK-t5Pmo&feature=related[/ame]

Holmes throws more right hands in 1 round then Wlad has his entire career.

That at the end is whats called a combination. Wlad hasnt thrown one of those in 8 years.

I don't think the Klits are hated by the american public at all, most don't even know who they are, and even the boxing fans simply don't care enough about the heavyweight division anymore to genuinely hate them.

Don't be fooled by the responses on the general forum. Had the internet existed during Holmes era he would have gotten just as many negative comments on boxing forums as the Klits do now. The internet allows people to be vitriolic in the safety of their own homes, without the repercussions that would occur in real life.

And I also agree, Holmes was a great champion. Popularity does not make a great champion, it should simply be judged on a fighters proven ability not on how marketable he is or charismatic.

You're the greatest poster of our time. Who else can **** on Floyd and Hops black fans for not coming to Wlads defense after a lackluster win.

Who said they were all black? Many of Floyd and Bhops fans here on ESB are not black.

You have a point there. But if you were able to watch the HBO broadcast and listened to Jim Lampley and Roy Jones Jr.'s comment after the fight, they echoed the same sentiments you see on ESB. Roy Jones hinted at being excited to maybe train some young American heavyweight prospects to finally end this current era of heavyweight boxing once and for all. If that doesn't sound like sourgraping, I don't know what is.

Been watching boxing for 30 years. I've seen my share.

Did you know Tex Cobb got his fight with Holmes by simply calling him up and saying, "I want to fight you."

I doubt you'll find that reference on the internet. But it was made public on TV during that time.

Do you know that Holmes wouldnt have stood infront of David Haye for 12 rounds flinching and pawing a jab?

How do you wtch boxing for 30 years and still not know the difference between Floyd Mayweather's style and Wlad, and not know why Tyson is considered exciting and Wlad isnt.

    Maybe you're senile?

I was exaggerating. Floyd doesn't use combinations as much and is now more known as a single punch at a time type fighter.

Reminds me of a certain current heavyweight champ. :think

Of course Wlad don't land many power shots on Haye. Haye was hanging out just at the end of reach hoping for over extenstion and the resulting loss of balance.

Haye was very fast and slippery to hit. I've never seen Wlad miss so many punches since Sanders.

Heavy weight is not Middle ...or Welter where Sugar Ray Robinson was a freeky tall welter most men he fought at welter were the then size of 5'6-8" He only fought one man his own height at welter.

Only three guys I can come up with were real skinny vs Wlad. Touch of Sleep, Byrd and Haye...who at 6 foot 3 could have bulked up....which would have brought him slowness.

Most of the fighters are about 6 foot 3 or 4, that either fighter fought. Most are 230-240-250-260....most are too fat. Or too bulked up with weight lifter muscles instead of boxing muscles.....IMO Haye also got too much time with a bench and those type of chest muscles just swollow O2, with out doing a dammed thing for a boxer....in spite of that he was fast.
Those kind of chest muscles ruin a jab...pushing the elbow out too far from the body....so that the jab is telegraphed.

Neither of the brothers are over built in the chest, so their jab can stay straight, instead of having to be a baby hook.

Ali was huge for the day...at six foot 3, with monster long arms 81-2 inches...and he just leaned back. He seemed so smooth because he fought off the back foot and could lean back on it.
Patterson for 5 rounds in his last fight made Ali a few time look as awkward as Wlad. KO in 7 or 8.

Ali vs Haye would still have had 5 inches of reach. 6 foot 3 Ali's reach is longer than 6 foot 7 vitili's.

Yep he was four inches taller than Frazier, and had some 7-8 inches more reach....(not sure of Fraziers reach) guessing at 74....
    6 foot 3 Foreman at 225 was a monster.
Ali won that fight because the ropes were loosened illegally. But his camp was famous for razor blades; too.

Mayweather has fradgile hands so he don't throw many power punches...he breaks his hands in the ring...
In side the ring he's supurb. I'd not buy him a beer in a bar though.

Hopkins is crafty and dirty and has good basics and can read what basics the man fighting him don't have on the whole and set up for it...and many boxers are limited to what they do. Hopkins normally has a plan C.
His thing is he often waits a bit too long, waiting for the other one to tire slightly.

Of course I know the difference. I'm trying to map out the border of exciting/non-exciting among fans of 'the sweet science- the art of hitting without getting hit". Where is the line drawn? Do the same guidelines that welters and middleweights exhibit must apply to 230+ pound heavyweights? Where are the lines drawn for safety first style boxers to be "adored" to "not cared for" to "hated"? I'm very curious and I think it's very interesting to hear from these fans.

Twisting facts to suit your agenda.

Wlad hardly ever throws combinations punches. He hardly ever throws power punches.

Floyd is far more active in each area. Infact Floyds favorite combination it seems is the straight left to the body, right hook up stairs. Its pretty much a combinatino he was landing on Oscar regularly at the end of their fight.

    Again stop it *******.
