Pong against:

-Pong vs Betulio Gonzalez
-Pong vs Sot Chitalada
-Pong vs Yuri Arbachakov
-Pong vs Santos Laciar
-Pong vs Pascual Perez
-Pong vs Miguel Canto
etc, etc

Would he beat any of those guys ?
Is he good enough for beat some of the ATG flyweights ????

I'd favor him over Chitilada, and make him even up with Gonzalez. He probably loses to the rest, but lasts the distance and has moments against all of them.

I think he would beat most of the borderline greats, but I´m not sure about Canto, Arbachakov, Perez, Mark Johnson, Chitalada, etc......his skills never impressed me, very good, solid technical fighter, with good head movement, but lacking in extraordinary attributes.....

 

True. But one thing he's always been good at is finding ways to neutralize faster, more stylish fighters.

Edit: The more I think about it, Chitalada might be 50/50 with Pong.

 

Think about this a moment, Vic. Would SNV devote an entire blockbuster feature film to a fighter "lacking in extraordinary attributes"?...:bart I think not.

Here's a younger Pong winning the title for the first time against Malcom Tunacao. Shows enough hand-speed and power to allow him to stay with, if not beat, some great flyweights in the division.

Some of those more devastating wins from Pong could be a tad tainted...due to Thai practice of bringing the opponent out up to 30-45mins before the local fighter..leaving them cold and a little vulnerable.

Not that he wouldn't of won but that helps.

 

Does anyone think that Pong might be the pound for pound greatest fighter of the Decade (2000-2009?). No one else has ruled over a division as long as he has, in the 200 to 2009 decade. Or at least no one i can think of.

 

Nah.

He didn't exactly rule...just outlasted a lot of his rivals as either they moved up or retired.

most inconsistent career i've ever seen. beats world champions and guys who are making their boxing debut interchangeably

 

Pongskalek is about on par with Chatchai Sasakul... but Sasakul was frozen out of his career after he lost to Pacquiao... if he had been given a title shot afgter Manny lost to Medgoen Singsurat than I think Sasakul could have had some great fights during that time period.. and Chatchai did a good job against Yuri Arbachakov in the first fight before winning their rematch.....
