Any case, I'm thinking of Wlad's initial TKO loss to Brewster from the Spring of 2004 / HBO.... I'm thinking that was the first time Manny S. worked his corner.... MR.BILL:huh:good:rasta
Seamus, recent reflection has helped my H2H opinion of Wlad rise drastically. Currently, on my Peak H2H list, i have Vitali at #9, & Wlad at #11, but i'm thinking about moving him up to #10. I refuse to consider anybody who was under 200lbs at their best on my list, because it's too frustating to fathom them attempting to beat modern H2H greats.
H2H Wlad is something to be reckoned with. Effectiveness just doesn't equate to greatness, or great skill. That's all I'd say. There are fighter out there in the annals of HW boxing that would make him look downright awful. Then there are fighters that would make him look a lot better than he is. I'd be curious to see your H2H list, anyway. I probably have more issue with Vitali at #9.
I think it does equal great skill, just not great entertainment. There have been plenty of tall, long guys in the division throughout its history. None have been able to do what Wlad has.
wlad is just lucky, buddy baer and primo carnera would whipe the floor with him oh i forgot, jess willard would decapitate him also
This is a peice of mythology drempt up by the advocates of modern fighters. There have been fighters like Wlad prety much since the dawn of gloved boxing.
Not as proficient or as physically gifted. No. That is why he has not been defeated in 7 years against top contenders. And of course the division is horrible today. Sure. I've heard that so oft repeated by keyboard experts I half expect the heftier of this lot might make their way to a gym and discover how horrible even ham and egger heavies are. There is still enormous fiscal incentive to become a heavyweight champion. Top talent is still being recruited. Unfortunately, there is a roadblock to the top that is called the Klitschko's. To insist the exact opposite is merely historical denial. And it is oh so tedious.
Yeah I'd favor the Klitschkos. Very big size advantage for Maxie to overcome, and I'm not sold on his giant-killing chops. Hard for him to cross up the jab of either guy with his best punch and while I do think he is a good pressure fighter, he's not good or durable enough to win this fight that way. I think Sharkey would have a better chance.
O.K, well the division has been horible since Lewis retired. I won't make any apology for saying it. The lack of condition of many of the top contenders speaks for itself. What other era has there been where three of the top 5 contenders had fat hanging over the top of their trunks? Without wishing to denigrate Mr Klitschko's achievment, I think that other all time greats would have had considerable sucess in his place. I also think that Primo Carnera would have rounded up most of the recent top 10.
