Overrated, no. He may not be the best HW to ever walk the earth, but how exciting was this guy? Before his loss to Douglas he had the world captivated. He was a monster and that was some exciting stuff. This is an entertainment business as much as it is anything, and Mike entertained the boxing world completely. Lets face it, boxing is never going to forget this guy, so how can he be overrated?????????

:patsch he was such a Hype job as he dominated and cleaned out the division in a way that hasn't been repeated, there were ZERO questions about who was the best or who was the champ, when Tyson was on top. Log off idiot.

To call him a hypejob is not to say he was ****. Dont get your panties in such a twist because im not riding his dick like you. I acknowledge he was a beast. He did what he did well, but against anyone who stood up to him, he had no plan b.

He is massively, massively overrated. And will continue to be with the passing of time as is the way with legends of the sport. The legend grows, the myth expands, the spectacles become ever more rose tinted.

Also, people chirping on about him being exciting....so what? Is that the mark of a good fighter, that theyre exciting?

Also, i dont agree that he beats Wlad. Wlad keeps him at distance and frustrates him senseless before Mike gets his volatile ass DQ'ed late on.

I think the thing is, he's tailer made for Wlad, that's why so many are saying he'd KO him quickly. He has all the things to spark him.

If we're talking Vitali it would be a much tougher test, but at the moment most the discussion in regards to Tyson is about Wlad and it does very much look had all the tools to beat him comfortably.

H2H Tyson gives pretty much any heavy problems.

He falls down a bit in the ATG rankings due to his resume.

Depends on who is rating him. Some have him over-rated, some under, some about right. All depends on the opinion.

IMO Iron Mike is top 10 ATG and couldv'e been the GOAT had he focused on boxing and settled into a NORMAL family life the way he should have.

That said, his mind was somewhere other than the ring in his early loss to Douglas. That loss followed by his false incarceration turned him into a mental midget, incapable of overcoming adversity.

Mid 80's to late 80's Tyson is not overrated in my opinion... when he lost self discipline and the desire to be the best he went down hill fast. By the time he fought Holyfield the first time he was already a shell of himself.

his ability was declining his entire career

he came up through the perfect team and under Custamato he was basically like an animal or just some kind of knockout machine!! He was very hungry and dedicated and at that point almost unvincible!!

From the moment Cus died and he met Don King it all started to go downhill cause he got distracted and was no longer dedicated but even in decline he was good enough to be undisputed and clean out the division!!

If you watch some of his early boxing videos his corner are shouting at him and giving his strategic advice!! Fast forward to the Lennox fight and you get a bunch of black panthers wearing sunglasses saying 'go get that british mah'****a mike', ' a yo where da ice at yo' etc....

    Stop thinking post Cus/prison.

He was much more than a one dimensional boxer.

    King/the yes men ruined him.

Forget the tags, 'underrated ' or 'overreted'.
Tyson was great as long as his opponent was a little old, a little slow, or a little scared.
When somebody had a will to win, like Douglas and Holyfield , Mike looked kind of average.

Nice excuses, I guess we should do the same thing for all the guys that lost to Foreman, Klitchco, Marciano, Liston, Louis, Dempsey etc. The lengths that haters will go to discredit someone is amazing.
