I guess when thinking of Sugar Ray Robinson, we will have to take away all but one fight at Welter...in that he was 5'11 and only fought one guy his height. He fought mostly regular sized for then welters of 5'6 or 8" tall. Yes Wlad deserves to be highly ranked at 6...he is not the best boxer...but has beaten men his size or close to his size and after Brewster 1, with relative ease, with basic boxing, jabs, straight right, has two hooks, and a right cross. Mayweather has not had a fight since Castillio 1, that he has not beaten the other man with relative ease.....and he is a better pound for pound boxer for a man with weak hands than Wlad. Lacks offensive power PAC-Man has power and ain't the defensive boxer Mayweather is. How is it he who don't look so pretty is so high....he's very effective with good power. Odd that Vitili who has lost very few more more rounds than he has fights, should not be rated, but he's not a 'boxer'. Hell you had a very good fight against Vitilie if you took a single round. That is indeed the art of hitting with out getting hit...much. He definitely ain't pretty at not getting hit and hitting the other bloke. Pretty counts more than effectiveness I guess. Hopefully I'm not nut hugging, but I do find it amazing that Vitilie has lost so few rounds. Do they have a pound for pound slugger list?
While Wlad's size is a great asset, he also has incredible athleticism and stamina, as well as possessing great skills. He deserves to be PFP, and I wouldn't argue if he was at #5.
They use a crappy points system that doesn't always put the most deserving fighters first. Look at their atg listing Archie Moore Sugar Ray Robinson Muhammad Ali Joe Louis Ezzard Charles Carlos Monzon Tony Canzoneri Sam Langford Dick Tiger Carlos Ortiz
The way floyd dominated hatton and marquez tells me he can use his size well so i'd imagine a scaled up version would be dominant yes. Pac doesn't really fight guys smaller so hard to say. Helenius and fury, we'll know with time but i'd be surprised if anyone comes close to wlad any time soon. Last paragraph is my thoughts exactly. A combination of those things makes him worthy. On skill alone (which is how some measure p4p) i'm not so sure he is. Using his advantage is something he's great at, but how much skill does he possess compared to smaller guys? Very hard to say because of his frame. I said earlier I have at 6 but I factor more than just skillset.
Paul Williams was only ranked so high because he was way taller than his opponents (true he didn't fight tall).. but his length still gave his opponents fits.... same could be said about Chico and Celestino Caballero... so size shouldn't be cancelled out completely... they use the size to pan their skills........ Wlad is top 5 to me... and I'm not even a fan... I think Donaire is better but just hasn't done enough resume wise outside of Montiel n Darchinyan... but I'm sure Donaire will pass him very soon
Interesting how them two held such a size advantage yet neither fought tall. I'd say pac, floyd(unless you don't rate him due to inactivity), martinez, donaire, jmm and hopkins have to be above him. Guys like pong, segura, ward and bradley is the area wlad belongs. Between 6-10. Mainly due to dominance.
P4P should never include Heavyweight fighters, I've said that for years. It's idiotic, Heavyweights don't have to control their weights even remotely as much as other fighters in different weight classes
I'm not so sure about dismissing them all. But I think the bigger they are the harder it is to rank them p4p.
Their ranking is more objective than anyone's on this forum. Can you give a reason or two why your ranking is better? :think
If Wlad was 3 inches shorter, he'd still dominate the heavyweights because he's shown me more skill and athleticism than the rest of them throughout the course of his career despite his size. I use the term "despite" because his athleticism and skills are probably worse off for being as big as he is than if he was a little smaller. If anything, he could be better all-around at 6'3, 220, 225 because he could do more without having to worry as much about gassing, and he'd be even faster for it.
Do you agree with them that Mayweather is number 41 all time and Sugar Ray Leonard is 53 while Roberto Duran is 46, because that's where they rank them
And why cant we assume the other guys rre a lot bigger instead, hows their footwork then for example its all mythical BS
