Why is Holyfield given so much credit for the Bowe trilogy?

Are you freaking serious lol. Which Euro fighter besides Lewis earned the right to face Holy that Holy didn't fight here or abroad?

holyfield won the title in oct 1990 , golota didnt even turn pro until 1992

holyfield was in a tourney and would have fought lewis, but he lost...the same time lewis won by koing ruddock....so not really up to holyfield to fight lewis when lewis was the one holding the belt at the time....then when they could have fought again, lewis got stopped by mccall...so this until he had to crap is funny...the man fought everyone, and he was gonna duck lewis for as long as he could? umm ok
tua didnt even turn pro until 1992...so if you are referring to his reign in 1996, i believe a tyson rematch was about 30$ million more reasons to not fight unproven guys like tua and golota....and michael moorer was undefeated and the number 1 contender..so if he didnt fight any of those guys you mentioned...it was because back then, guys actually had to earn a title shot, they werent handed out at random with all the wba, wbc, ibf, wbo regular, interims, and champion in recess emiritus titles....they actually meant something 15 years ago

I wouldn't describe Bowe, even at his best, as a top-level fighter.
    Second tier? Sure.

Holy didn't fight abroad while half way decent.

See my post above for a few names.

I think there were plenty of non-us fighters on par with:

    Old Foreman
    Bert Cooper
    Alex Stewart
    Bobby Czyz

    don't you?

    Let me reiterate.

Holyfield did not fight outside the USA until 2007 (he was 45).
He did not beat a non US fighter until 2010

    See. Backs up everyones point.

Tonnes of reasons to explain away things Holy didn't do but other guys did.

Bowe managed to fight Coetzer(meh), Gonzalez and Golota.
Tyson managed to fight Bruno, Ruddock, Golota (bit late though)

But not Holy. Those guys "earned" the right to fight Bowe or Tyson, but not Holy? Come on.

NOTE: I am nearly 40. I do remember a time when we didn't have 3 belts per division, per sanctioning body.

Bowe, at his best, was probably more gifted then any of his contemporaries. In the early 90s, he was rightfully regarded as the equal of Holyfield, Tyson and Lewis. IMO, at his absolute peak, he's the most talented of the four. Problem was, his best didn't last long.

Holy fans have to portray Bowe as a stellar champ. Otherwise Fields is 1-2 against a mediocre heavyweight. Which ultimately is what Bowe was. Of course, Holy's fans can just fall back on their usual excuse that Evander was past his prime. It's a handy line they pull out of the excuse pile to explain away his losses.

Being brutally honest, it lasted just under an hour.

And even then I thought he fought dumb. Brave, yes? Smart? No.

then you should know that none of those guys were were in line or warranted a fight.... you have 5 or 6 belts right now (or before wlads starting collecting them) if you have each belt defend 2 times in a year thats 10 fights...holyfield was undisputed champion..which means guys like the ones you mentioned had to be worthy and worth a ****....when you are only going to have 2-3 fights per year instead of 10
yeah coetzer was so great it warranted holyfield to fly to south africa and fight him...he got the **** kicked out of him by a 42 year old george foreman....but holyfield should have fought him? um ok
bruno was ****ing ranked #1 when tyson fought him the first time...thats when guys got shots back then...sorry jorge luis gonzalez and the rest of your poor examples were still fighting on cards called "young guns" when holyfield was doing his thing

Reiterating isn't helping you either. Who are the fighters that Holy didn't fight. Holy was on a paper Chase, and was fighting tough customers. I can do what you did to every fighter in boxing history. When Holy had the title, he didn't have to fight over seas, and he was fighting on ppv. Bruno was a non factor, and Ruddock was right there until he lost.

I like winding Zak up, that's true. I like to see how long it takes to pull out his ham'n'eggers line.

I also do like pointing out some of the massive flaws in a lot of the things Holy fans pull out.

I like Holy. I have nothing but respect for the old headbutter, but he seems to get free passes for things no other fighters do.

And I don't need to be sensitive. I like Lewis, but I can admit he got laid spark out by 2 guys he should have beat.
I can also admit he boxed Holy's ears off for something like 17 out of 24 rounds they fought.

Bruno was a non factor for Holy, but not for Tyson? Ok.

Ruddock was actually supposed to fight Holy before the Holy/Bowe/Lewis/Ruddock thing.

As you know. BOTH guys lost.

As for the "Gonzalez was a young fighter card fighter". yeah, so was riddick bowe, so that blows "bowe was a great" straight out the ****ing water doesn't it?
