Chagaev Fighting Povetkin For The Regular WBA Belt

It is not official , but I read that August 27 in Erfurt is the date and place of the fight

 

Worthless paper title, but this should be a good war.

Both are aggressive come-forward fighters, both are equally rusty, & both need to prove how good they currently are. Povetkin wins, because Chagaev has been quite faded since he got infected with Hepatitis. Although i must say, Povetkin seems at least a bit Past-Prime these days.

 

That's such a sad truth. When he stopped byrd and beat chambers down the stretch he had the whole world at his feet. Big championship shot lined up and a new trainer recruited. Since then he's gone from "signed to fight wlad" to "my fighter is not quite ready" to "how many bums can I beat whilst getting progressively worse"

It's such a shame because he was an aggressive combo puncher and i'm sure the media would have loved him but it's all been downhill.

Now if he looks in shape and destroys chag i'd love to see him get a shot at wlad.

 

It's just crazy lol. I mean wlad has twice beaten a wba title holder, he's done everything he can possibly do regarding their belt. I hope he beats up pov just for the cheek of ducking him and stealing his belt :lol

 

Sadly this is true. :verysad Povetkin has been slipping downhill, despite only facing crapola bums after he beat ranked contender Chambers 3 years ago in '08. I think his age is a factor, 32 is old & Past-Prime for a aggressive come-forward fighter.

A super fight where precisely?

 

If Povevkin beats Chagaev and then faces Wlad that fight will certainly be a super fight. A far better legacy fight for Wlad than his fight with Haye. Povetkin isn't just some media creation, he unlike Haye has the credentials to back up his case.

 

Nice fight, two top fighters whose styes match up nicely. I think Povetkin wins a decision here but he's been off for a bit so that could be a factor. I don't like the whole regular and super title things but atleast we get a good fight here.

I've always thought that the heavyweight divsion was better than some make it out to be and that the real problem was lack of top guys facing off. But, if this fight comes off and Chambers-Thompson happens than things would be changing. I think if most people were to list their top 10 heavyweights than you would have Wlad-Haye, Vitali-Adamek, Povetkin-Chagaev, and Chambers-Thompson all in there. So, its good to see the best heavies mixing it up instead of avoiding each other.

I don't think if Povetkin beats Chagaev and then faces Wlad that it would have the hype or interest that Wlad-Haye did. But, if Povetkin beat Chagaev, Povetkin would become the best win on Wlad's record. Povetkin is already more accomplished than Haye and if he were to beat Chagaev, even a slightly faded one, than Povetkin is clearly the better win.

 

not super in terms of lewis/tyson pac/floyd wlad/haye etc. maybe my wording was wrong.

it will make for a worthwhile opponent that will add to wlad's legacy. it will be billed as another unification (politics didn't get in the way of the wlad - haye hype). plus povetkin would be seen as a legit threat if he detsroyed chag. byrd+chambers+chag is one of the best resumes of the contending bunch.

 

When Wlad beats Povetkin (after Povetkin beats Chagaev), won't the WBA just transform the "regular" WBA belt into another "super" WBA belt, then create another "regular" WBA belt? :think

 

Povetkin beat Chris Byrd by winning every round and then stopping him in the 11th. Ruslan Chagaev fights in a similar style to Byrd, and is younger than Byrd was then.

Povetkin wins this on points.

 

I hate the WBA "regular belt" that appears with unification but I abhor it when it is just given to someone.

Wladimir, John & Marquez have a super belt because they unified whereas Cotto, Ward, Sturm, Moreno were given it for some other reason.
