lol Chagaev is also a solid 225-230lb legit HW who has competed as such since he was a 18 year old amateur, has a solid punch, and is aggressive. You say grapefruit i say coconut, Chagaev is harder to break.

Sounds like a great fight to be made. I am surprised the WBA didn't put together some mix of Holyfield/Ruiz/Valuev for the title.

I just hope that they don't have some sort of silly rule about their "Regular Champ" fighting their "Super Champ". I don't want any silly WBA nonsense getting in the way of that matchup.

 

In a strange way it will in a ****ed-up "official" sort of way, but to me, when a ABC org makes a "super" belt, their "regular" belt becomes a worthless piece of jewelry. Do you actually acknowledge the "regular" belts as being remotely valuable once a "super" title has been created? To me, the "super" belt is really just the orginal belt of the ABC organisation, with a new appearance, & the "regular" version becomes a ****ing joke. Just my two pence.

 

Agreed. You don't win Gold at the olympics fighting at Super heavyweight for nothing. Not only that but Povetkin would come into the fight unbeaten with wins over Eddie Chambers, Chagaev, Chris Byrd and Larry Donald on his cv, 3 of those names being some of Wlad's better wins. He is still at a good age too for a heavyweight. With a proper camp behind him Povetkin is a tough fight for anyone in any era.

Agreed, when a super belt exists the regular belt is no different to an interim belt.
Wlad won't have to fight mandatories for the WBA. Would be interested to see what would happen if Vitali unified with the regular champ.
