I do recall Eubank saying Arum wanted him to fight Nunn in America if he beat Collins and that's what put him off, 'Why would I fight a southpaw 6'3" speedster in his backyard when I'm already the world champion? It's illogical.'

Do you think the arm-punching Collins of '90-'91 would've got the better of a sharp Eubank, four years before he did?

Collins in 91 was not beating Eubank. Collins still was a way from being the fighter he would become by the middle of the decade, and Eubank of 91 had a lot more energy than the fighter of 95.

Collins was not at Eubank's level until after the Kalambay fight, when something clicked and Collins went from limited cutie to cunning brawler.

what about in 1994 when they fought first?

You've got to be joking me if you think in those 3 years something colossal had changed between the two men. Eubank was 28 when he fought Collins.

Less than three years, one fight changed Eubank....

By the time of the Collins fight, Eubank was on dregs fighting the world Tour for the £18 Million, or what ever it was.

Collins was still trying to fight cute in 91, Eubank would of comfortable out cutied him back then.

Three years can be a very long time in Boxing, especially when you fought as often Eubank did back then....

    haven't you heard?

Eubank was way past his prime in those two fights against Collins at the age of 28 and 29. Also, those were freak performances from Collins. The best performances he ever gave and he got lucky on those two nights.

Officially, i think it's supposed to be just a lull.

He was back pretty close to prime when he was fighting Calzaghe. It was just against Collins he dipped into past prime/shot territory for a while.

And you have to take away the fact that Collins was two years older than Eubank and had some hard fights and a tough career before fighting him. Collins was hypnotised before his fight with Eubank and this magically blessed him with the speed of sugar ray robinson, the power of Julian Jacksona and the chin of Marvin Hagler. In fact Collins win should be erased from the records, he cheated without a doubt:bart

I think most people would say Duran peaked in the DeJesusIII, Palomino, LeonardI (78-80) period.

The Cuevas, Moore, Hagler and later still Barkley fights help define what a great fighter is about. Despite being arguably sometimes way past his best, he could produce a little bit of magic.

Eubank was very much a peak and trough fighter. The first Benn fight was followed up with the awful Sherry performance. An ordinary reign as WBO 168lbs champ, was occasionally enlivened with excellent performances (Wharton; Rocchigiani). The upset defeats to Collins, where followed with brave defeats to Calzaghe and The Cat.

My argument very much is, in early 1991, Steve Collins was simply not ready for Eubank. Another 18 months of seasoning, losing to Johnson and Kalambay, got him ready for the likes of Eubank.
