Pacquiao and Mayweather Best Punches vs Mosely

I've always maintained that, whilst both guys are fast, they both out-do each other in the speed department in different ways.

Pacquiao's speed is generated speed. He has to begin throwing combinations for his speed to gain momentum, and shine the way it does. The end result is a hell of a lot of punches coming your way before you know it.

Floyd, on the other hand, has sudden speed. His single punches are more explosive, and are able to launch and land in a blink of an eye. He’s not as quick as Pacquiao when it comes to putting punches together, but his single punches are faster, in my opinion.

There's no doubt about who hits the hardest, though.

1 - Floyd is a great counterpuncher, so he looks great because Mosley continually comes to meet him, but cannot match Floyd for speed or reflexes.

Pacquiao is a great fighter, so he does not look as great as he usually does when his opponent is continually running backwards trying to avoid engaging.


2 - Mosley's single shots hurt Floyd more than Floyd's single shots hurt Mosley.

Pacquiao's single shots hurt Mosley more than Mosley's single shots hurt Pacquiao.


3 - Floyd's hands are as fast as Pacquiao's, and I'd say he throws single punches faster than Manny. Pacquiao's feet are faster than Floyd's, and I'd say he throws combinations faster than Floyd.


4 - If Mosley had stood in front of Pacquiao the way he stood in front of Floyd, he'd have got knocked out and probably badly hurt.


5 - Floyd looks bigger and bulkier than Pacquiao, and his reach is noticeably longer.

Pretty good assessment actually. I think the consensus if Pac and Floyd are to fight is that the following scenarios are possible:

1. Floyd outboxes Manny to a UD with his defence and counters (most likely)
2. Manny KOs Floyd with a combination (less likely)

Or alternatively,

1. Manny outpoints Floyd with his workrate (possible, but who'd favour Pac to beat Floyd on points?)
2. Floyd TKO's Manny ala Gatti (doubt it)

 

and popkins is by far 1000 times more of a better poster and contributor in ESB than you.

 

I think the likely outcomes go in the following order

1. Floyd wide UD
2. Floyd very close UD

People get so caught up in whether a fighter looks faster or not in videos (which don't necessarily give a 100% accurate account of motion, emphasis on motion blur, etc)

Mayweather maintains to this day, that while everyone is so caught up in "who is faster", his strategy focuses on "timing and inches"...countering and distance, etc. Floyd has fast hands and quick on the release, but he doesn't use his speed the way Manny uses his speed. Many uses his speed to let lose a bunch of rapid fire. While Floyd uses his speed to try to counter and surprise you with lead rights and lefts. He also focuses on being at the right distance to do what he wants while taking minimal punishment or being out of range for return.

The fight will not come down to speed only or power only. It will come down to Floyd dictating the pace with distance and countering effectively. Or Manny finding a way to break Floyd's defense with meaningful combinations. Many fighters get discouraged fighting Floyd and try too hard to outbox him. Manny needs to not be discouraged and work on breaking Floyd down (arms, hips, body, fists, etc). Floyd needs to be relaxed and focus on taking what Manny gives him because Manny gives a lot (meaning he's open to be hit).

 

Floyd almost looking like as soft as Paulie with his punches when compared side by side with Pac.
I mean those were crisp, well timed and pretty solid punches, but Shane's reaction was far different with the way he reacted to Pac's combinations.

Still I maintain my position that FMJ did better on Shane simply because he was able to execute his game plan better (UD over Shane) as opposed to Pac's (KO Shane).

 

I agree with this. Although, Pac winning via stoppage might be a bit too high considering Floyd's record and Pac's recent performances.

 

They both gave Shane a beatdown.

One had Shane running away. Shane stood in front of the other.

One was hurt by Shane. The other took his shots well.

Shane was a little swole up at the end of both fights. One swoled him up more.

One knocked a backwards Shane down. The other couldn't know Shand down standing in front of him with counters he "couldn't see"

 

It only looks high because I (Clayton Bigsby) put Floyd's chances of stopping Pacquiao considerably low.

I think Pac's performance against Mosley is too difficult to gauge. Mosley was in it to survive, and it's almost impossible to look good against a guy who's as negative as that. Like Popkins above mentions in point 5, if Mosley stood infront of pac like did against Floyd, Pac would brutalized him.

So how do you see Floyd fighting Pac? Running and tagging him? Standing toe to toe and fighting on the inside?
