I got my wisdom teeth out last Thursday and within 3 days i was feeling great and back to my regular routine. I'm concerned about sparring though, im starting at my local gym today and would want to jump right into sparring asap. I was wondering if anyone had any complications with sparring after a tooth removal and if it would be a good idea to spar within 2-3 weeks after getting them out.

You'll probably be fine. But if it was me I'd wait til the wound is healed which takes a week or so.

  3. it would be STUPID to spar after wisdom tooth removal , like anything all tooth removals and the effects of , vary , but you should not spar until your mouth is fully recovered.

make sure it is healed %100.

you do NOT want it to open again and get infected, one of mine got infected and it was horrible. looked like i had a golf ball in my cheek was extremely painful. not worth the risk, seriously.

I 100% agree with Rokurota..couldn't explain better..i do think you better wait..why don't you just do all the rest of the training, including light Partner-Work..you can take this chance also to focus on something specific, as aerobic, muscle training..or whatever you would like to improve..take it easy, it's a short time, so you can manage the situation and take advantage in it someway:good

I agree. From what i hear an infection is a pain in the ass and would prolly put me out for longer than the 3 weeks it usually takes to heal. Thanks guys

After 4 wisdom teeth extracted, 8-10 weeks with no sparring was recommended. Be advised that the integrity of the jaw has been compromised. You can work out but no sparring until totally healed.

Ever heard of something called Dry-Socket?

It's where the blood-clot that forms after a tooth is removed gets dislodged, and you end up with a hole in your mouth going down to the Jaw Bone.

    VERY PAINFUL.

So if the clot (when new) can be dislodged simply by sucking on a straw, what do you think sparring with do to it???

    After a tooth is removed:

Usually a blood clot forms. If that clot is damaged, that hole will be visible again. And will HURT.

I didn't wait till mine healed, and I paid tremendously. I had five count them five wisdom teeth. Yep an extra one. I thought a week later I would be fine. I was way wrong. I got an infection after dislodging the clot. Had head pain for three years after and couldn't figure out what it was. Finally turns out that the infection slowly worked its way up into my right jaw and caused me to have 8 root canals and jaw bone surgery. Take your time. Heal up. It's not worth the pain of pushing it, or the extra money to get dental work done. I spent 30k nearly on dental injuries over the years from now wearing proper mouth pieces and from that jaw surgery issue. 3 week to a month is not that long compared to years of pain or debt.

I had my wisdon teeth removed to and waited at least a month. I felt fine after around 2 to 3 days stopped taking painkillers after the first day, but still wait. I had stiches and they told me when the stiches come out by them self(wierd) to come back for a check up. Whent back and asked about sparring told me to wait bout a week or two.
