For me this kid has got everything , Excellent Stand up - Un predictable movement , superb timing , good power , solid muay thai technique Wrestling - For me he is borderline elite level wrestling for MMA :deal Solid JJ Heart , Guts and Cardio - All on another level compared to his peers Its a no brainer for me , Dominic Cruz is a star of MMA ..............
Cruz is 4th for me, his competition has been absolutely stellar. His last 5 fights against Benavidez, Bowles, Benavidez, Jorgensen and Faber is probably the best current run in MMA.
I'd definitely have him in there. Cruz-Faber was one of the all-round highest quality MMA fights I've seen in a long time, both guys showed some stellar skillsets. And like Ubersteve said, his last 5 have been a really excellent run. I think mine would be something like this: 1.Anderson Silva 2.GSP 3.Jose Aldo 4.Dominick Cruz 5.Jon Jones (sorry dudes, but Bones's resume doesn't have the quality or depth to merit a higher ranking at this point in time) 6.Frankie Edgar (can't stand his fighting style, but you can't argue with his form) 7.Cain Velasquez 8.Junior dos Santos 9.Mauricio Shogun Rua 10.Lyoto Machida Honourable Mentions: Nick Diaz, Gilbert Melendez, Gray Maynard, Jon Fitch, BJ Penn, Jake Shields
i like cruz a lot, but i would like to see him start finishing people....dancing around to UDs is the new lay and pray, imo...thanx GSP
Sherdog dont rank Cruz P4P , although there website does seem to take a couple of weeks to achknowledge movement in the P4P rankings , there current top 10 : St Pierre Silva Aldo Edgar Fitch Jones Sheilds Melendez Shogun Evans
My P4P List: #1 Emeritus: Fedor 1. Spider 2. Jon Jones 3. GSP 4. Aoki 5. Gil 6. Aldo 7. Shogun 8. JDS 9. Maynard 10. Mousasi So....not yet
My beef is that Frankie Edgar designs fight plans to win unanimous decisions IMO, he does not design fight plans to win fights by stoppage or submission, which is what I believe MMA is all about. His striking is quick, neat, tidy, safe, pitty-pat points-scoring punches, his takedowns are thrown in liberally to catch the judges' eye because he rarely uses them as a way of doing some serious damage on the ground, the way they are supposed to be used. In short, to me Edgar is everything that's wrong with current MMA. I can say this without being labelled a 'hater' because it's quite clear from my p4p ranking of him that I am well aware of how effective he is in the Octagon. But it doesn't mean I have to like it.
heh....i described him as "throw a flicker jab at air then backpedal for 2 1/2 minutes" to my friend the other day
I agree with this i cant stand the way Edgar fights i dont get exited for his fights unless it was vs BJ penn
Its very unfair to label Edgar a dislikeable fighter simply because he doesnt finish fights !!! , Edgar produces displays of outstanding technique coupled with cardio that never seems to die , he is the prototype of the modern day " well rounded " mixed martial artist , you also have to remember with Edgar he is a small LW and doesnt pack as much as say a BJ Penn , or Melvin Guillard who are both borderline WW's , and yet still holds the title including 2 wins over the great Penn :deal Im sorry guys but hats are off to Edgar , IMHO he will eventually go down as one of the greats
I repeatedly underlined how aware I was of Edgar's effectiveness in the Octagon, I have never said otherwise, he is a high-level fighter who is exceptionally well-rounded and difficult to beat... ...but I maintain that I dislike his style, mentality, principles and performances, for the reasons stated in my last post. This comment: is the real crux of the issue. IMO, Edgar is leading the dilution of martial arts in the wrong direction. Scurlaruntings is another person who I know shares this view.
Dude , if you beleive what you say to be logical and truthfull dont hide behind other posters !!! Ive followed Scurl's posts and i have no time for most of what he posts Just in what martial art are you expected to finish an opponent every single time ??? Remember MMA is more refined now , the fighters are more rounded , and tend to be more evenly matched in todays MMA , hence closely contested fights , and decisions Tell me , can Faber or Cruz be critisised for last weeks fight ???
