I think early it would be competitive with it being exciting and both fighters having their moments. around round 8 or 9 Hearns will probably win tha majority of the rounds and win a decision
I think Tommy would win a decision. Oscar is good and has a good jab, and I could see Tommy getting into a jabbing contest and winning a decision.
Not an easy fight for either man. Oscar's level between 140-147lbs gets overlooked because of substandard performances late in his career. He was electric at welterweight and Hearns beat nobody of his quality in that weight class (don't even mention Cuevas). That said I can't see Oscar being able to stop the jab and the Hearns right hant in lethal from one through twelve/fifteen. Hearns by decision but if Oscar lands a huge left hook anything can happen.
Hearns pretty easy UD. I mean yeah DLH may give him a challenge in some ways but easy in that I dont see DLH outboxing him at all. Hearns outboxed SRL and wasnt stopped until past the 12th. DLH isnt on the same level as SRL and also is naturally smaller and naturally smaller than Hearns as well for that matter.
What a stupid arse comment! No-one said he has a glass chin. People just rate Hearn's power highly. 33 wins at WW, 31 by knockout.
He could get a stoppage if he targets the body. I think if he gets the TKO depends strongly if he goes for that strategy or not. And its more than just DLH having a strange stoppage to Hopkins. Most of the TKO/KO losses for guys with ATG chins were from body shots. Mayorga/Tito, Chuevalo/Foreman ect. We can ignore the pac stoppage because that was DLH at his worse and pac almost couldnt miss that night, that was an accumulation of headshots but that isnt happening with him at his peak.
Oscar has certain tools that make him a sort of Leonard-lite. His parrying and footwork that are the cornerstones of his defence could give Tommy trouble landing the jab and right hand, but Tommy could throw beautiful combinations to the head and body. That would be how he would get around Oscar's solid defence. Oscar also swelled up quite a bit when he got clocked cleanly (look at his fights with Gonzalez, Quartey and even Carr) and if he gets hit by Tommy's jab and right hand to often you'll see that left eye swell up. Oscar's best shot to win this fight would be to try and work his way in like he did against Trinidad and mix it up by trying to come insider behind the jab, and while he's there bang him to the body with the left hook. He can't afford to keep moving out after landing one or two body punches. He would need to focus on body work occasionally landing on Tommy up top. Tommy was never the most durable of fighters, but I think Oscar would not have the discipline to follow a gameplan like this, would succumb to the combinations and get dropped in the process. He'd do well to make it a close loss on the cards to Tommy. Leonard had masses of trouble with Tommy in their 81' fight. Oscar is a notch or two below Leonard at 147. If Quartey's right felt like being hit by a brick, then Hearn's will feel like...erm...something harder.
Hearns along with Robinson is the best fantasy fighter at WW. Tommy outboxes him, I think stops him over 15, possibly a decision over 12.
De La Hoya was a very solid fighter at welterweight, but he'd be in over his head against Tommy Hearns.
