:nut I don't even understand what this question means. If I was ever going to go into MMA, I would most certainly spend serious time and effort learning BJJ so I'd have the ability to try and end fights on the ground as well. All of my favourite MMA fighters mix the abilities to end fights on the feet and on the ground.
ODLH JrMW Judah, Baldo, Mosley..all WW JMM (shoulda tried harder to finish him...i think he wanted the rounds to be honest) JLC...you can't KO everyone, and you are aware he had a shoulder injury the first fight...hard to KO a guy when you can't punch so...as i said, he was KOing people (FINISHING THEM) pre WW...4 or the 6 you mentioned were WW or above..so, what is YOUR point?
I have to disagree. The only fights where I saw Frankie perform with a cautious gameplan designed to win a UD were his fights with Penn (although he was much more agressive in the second fight). In every other outing I've seen Edgar perform agressively and at least attempt to finish the fight. What you have to remember is that Frank is a natural featherweight (maybe even bantamweight) fighting guys who have 15-20 pounds on him everytime out. He simply doesn't have the strength or size to control the elites at LW on the ground (at least for very long) and his punches aren't going to put away guys with proven chins like Penn, Sherk, and Maynard. You also can't say he doesn't attempt submissions because Edgar has a handy guillotine he has used to put guys like Sherk and Maynard in trouble and in his fight with Matt Veach he dropped Veach and finished him with a rear naked choke. You are entitled to your opinion but I find your claims unfounded and you strike me as someone who has only seen Edgar in his fights with BJ Penn. Check out Edgar vs. Maynard II, Sherk, Bocek, Veach, Franca, and especially Griffin (one of my favorite fights ever) and tell me if you still feel the same way about Frankie's style.
To say that Cruz danced around throwing flashy kicks and backing out of harms way shows a complete dis regard for the art of grappling / wrestling It kind of reminds me whan Dana White was asked in the post fight press conference of Edgar Penn 2 ; " Dana do you see wrestling as the dominant discipline of MMA " Dana White's reply " what Frankie Edgar did tonight was not wrestling " For me what Dominic Cruz did against Faber was not in any way shape or form boring
Cool. I'm more than happy to leave it there, because we're never going to change each others' sensibilities. I'll continue to watch my dvds of Rua and Penn finishing opponents using brilliant Muay Thai or BJJ, and you can continue watch your dvds of Edgar jogging round the Octagon pitty-patting his way to UDs showing great cardio. :good:good:good
This is getting tedious He didnt force a stoppage against the above mentioned because he couldnt , thats why !!?? , hence his level of competition was elevated , and he had less opportunity Again for you ............. My original point is , Mayweather shows technical superiority before he shows a will to finish a fight JUST LIKE FRANKIE EDGAR
yep, i DLed 70+ GBs of old PRIDE fights....going to go queue them up i think, as this has hit the going in a circle point
The only fight of Edgar's where he impressed me was Bocek. Matt Veach was overmatched, any top 10 lightweight would've finished him. If Frankie can't finish fights because he is above his best weight, then I very much wish he would move down and start fighting people his own size, and start trying to finish fights.
It was a circle from the start mate, hence why I tried to say there was no point in it but "thewinfella" was not to be dissuaded. When arguments start over personal preferences, no-one can ever win because no-one is going to change their likes or dislikes off the cuff. We've made our points and explained them thoroughly. Time to move on. :good As I said, Frankie's fans are free to enjoy his 'Unanimous Decision Boxed Set', same as I'm free to watch the fighters I like.
Just to put you in the picture , my favourite top 5 current fighters read off as follows : Penn Velasquez Shogun Florian Faber But i am not of the opinion that mixed martial artists serve to finish fights , something we have covered extensively , Edgar can be boring , as can GSP and Fitch , but it still doesnt take away the technical brilliance of what these man are doing Everbody likes a finish , but not everybody likes a loser , strategy is a big big part of any contact sport , and should be appreciated IMHO , you have a different view , im cool with that Good debate , i enjoyed it , peace bro :good
baldo and judah are better than chico...now i know you are a ****** 99.9% of all boxers lose KO power as they move up in weight...anyway, this is getting boring now.... i wanted to leave you with a benny hill chase scene, but don't have the time to search for one
Sorry to keep this going but i just have to looking at this !!! This is exactly what im talking about when showing a complete lack of understanding of a discipline , in JJ terms you learn to control before attempting a submission , you do this by using and developing controlling techniques to force an opponent into a position which makes him vulnerable for a submission Then you develop a style , aggressive or non aggressive ala Penn , Diaz Brothers , Sheilds (aggressive) , St Pierre , Fitch , Hughes (non aggressive / defensive / controlling) , all of the above BTW are Black Belts (barring Hughes who does not get graded but completely dominated Royce Gracie on the ground) .
I disagree, but fair enough man. As I've been saying, I do not doubt for a second that Edgar is an excellent fighter, I just do not like nor admire his approach to the sport. It's a personal preference. :good
