No, clutching at straws is what happens when one's only argument is "I'm beating you". If you have to tell someone that you're winning a debate and you have nothing but that, obviously you aren't winning. And grammar pertains to sentence formulation, not spelling.
Yeah, it's kind of sad to see how this glass jaw denial seems to be even more prevalent among MMA fans than it is among boxing fans. GLASS JAWS EXIST Fanboys! Accept it!!!
It's because even when it's a single jab or arm punch that KOs one of their glass jawed heroes they have the little gloves to fall back on as proof of "that punch woulda KOed anybody". However, a chinchecking campaign of logic and reason will surely remedy this plague of unrealistic hero worshippers!!!:happy:happy:happy
What are you basing your glass jaw theory on? That boxers have better chins than mma fighters? Of course they do. Boxing is a sport where the primary focus is hitting the opponent in the face repeatedly. Naturally, people that can take a better shot are going to be at the top. MMA is not simply about getting punched in the face, and leaves more leeway for those that can't take as good of a punch. The argument that you are making is like saying the world's best sprinters are faster than the world's best decathletes, and your here to represent as a speedchecker. Of course the pure sprinters are faster, but that doesn't mean they would do better in a decathlon. I really don't know what your goal is.
We're on a forum where people pretend to be reality tv characters nobody knows or cares about and people who make nonsensical posts over and over again in the same thread with completely random videos and pictures. There are no goals on ESB, only illogical trolls.
I never said that top boxers have better chins than top MMA fighters because there are beasts in MMA that eat punches from 4 oz gloves and shins to the head. There's just more glass to be found on the whole in MMA because there are more tomato cans and bums in the sport. And the goal is educating the masses on the importance of proper punch resistance!atsch
Since when was there any "goal" on a message board other than to have an entertaining and informative discussion? :thinklol:
Punch resistance isn't as important in mma as it is in boxing, just like take down defense isn't as important in boxing as it is in mma. Punching is the only goal in boxing, it merely a part of mma.
You're completely wrong. When getting hit with small gloves it's even MORE important to be able to take a punch, and Wanderlei Silva and Chuck Liddell are proof of that. Beasts when they could take a decent shot, bums when they couldn't. Glass Jaws exist in MMA and punch resistance is central to fighting success!:hi:
I think the point is that you should find another topic. This dead horse has been resurrected and beaten again. It's like me saying this just in fire still hot. :hi:
When the deniers and fanboys have accepted the complete centrality of punch resistance in sports involving punching, I might consider moving on to a new debate but until then, chinchecking will continue strong!:tong
I'm sure people understand that punch resistance is important in combat sports. If they don't then they are ****ed.
Tell that to the sheep that blather on about, "that punch woulda KOed anybody!" even when the punch in question is a jab.
MMA does have smaller gloves, and a good chin would be more necessary if it were a sport that just concerns punches. But it isn't. MMA has kicks, leg kicks, take downs, submissions, and ground fighting. Clinching isn't illegal in mma either. Fighters have more means of protecting their chins in mma, and punch resistance isn't as important as it is in boxing. Chuck Liddell has lost by knock out 6 times, 4 of which came after he was nearly 37 years old and after. George Foreman is the exception, not the rule. Many boxers lose their punch resistance as they age. Ray Leonard was not known as glass jawed, but the referee sure had to save his old ass against the not so hard hitting Hector Camacho. Wanderlei has always been reckless, and has only been knocked out by people with high ko ratios.
