15 rounds MW bout I´m very curious to read your opinions on this fight.... between two very skilled fighters, great counter-punchers.... Who and why ??
I might go for Kalambay here. Giardello, like James Toney, was more comfortable when he had the strong come forward fighters in front of him and he could comfortably take their shots and look for countering opportunities, given the often slower and more stationary targets he would be facing. Against the better boxer types that he faced (Graham, Benton, Dupas etc.) Joey struggled, and there's no reason to think he wouldn't struggle with Kalambay, who would use his flashy hands and feet to strike and vacate the premises consistently. We've seen Kalambay perform quite admirably against counterpunchers like McCallum, Graham etc. so there's no reason tot hink he doesn't perform well here. Giardello might swing a surprising Ko by luring Kalambay in, but more likely than not I see Sumbu building up too many points for Giardello to surmount, even though Joey will figure Sumbu out as the fight goes on and probably start to claw his way back. Joey is the greater fighter, but this is a bad style match up for him. Something in the vicinity of 9-6 for Kalambay imo.
Well....I´m slightly more impressed with Kalambay.... But I voted Giardello just because he is the greater fighter.....more proven.....but I don´t know to be honest....that´s the reason why I did the thread.......But I like your post, I can see your reasons...and I agree.....
