From 7pm on Primetime (for free!!!):

Lucian Bute vs Jean-Paul Mendy, 12 rounds.
Think the main event is at around 9pm and the undercard doesn't look great :-(

    Showtime at 3am:

Carlos Molina vs Kermit Cintron, 10 rounds
Brandon Rios vs Urbano Antillon, 12 rounds

The Premier Sports broadcast starts at 4am cos of Nascar :huh

Top Rank will be streaming the untelevised undercard legally on their website from midnight :good. Standout names are Mercito Gesta and Matt Korobov.

    On HBO from 3.15am:

Rico Ramos vs Akifumi Shimoda, 12 rounds
Paul Williams vs Erislandy Lara, 12 rounds

Even though there's no domestic card on tonight we've got a good night of boxing ahead :bbb

The two US main events will clash so which one will you be watching?

I believe Ramos-Shimoda has the potential to be the FOTN...Shimoda is one of the fastest punchers in the sport today and I think he might get the stoppage in the 2nd half of the fight.

I think Shimoda tight decision. Rico is inexperienced and that could be the deciding factor, plus Shimoda's speed. Should be a good un.

Shimoda's pretty good, though nothing spectacular. Shimoda's got a cultured jab, which he continuously pops out at you while slowly advancing, and an accurate straight left when he gets into a rhytym. He puts his shots together well and has a humungous head, which he puts to good(albeit illegal) use. His head movement is good for not letting an opponent set but it's poor in terms of enabling him to defend himself. In essence, his defence is pretty bad, and, being a southpaw, he's more vulnerable to what I hear are Ramos' money shots, the left hook and the right hand.

That said, I've seen very little of Ramos so am not best placed to make a pick.

Valdez is a good fighter, so that's a good win for Ramos (although it was closer that what the cards showed). Plus Valdez is a southpaw who pressured Ramos so I guess it kind of helped in preparation for Shimoda. I only say kind of, because of the disparity in speed between Shimoda and Valdez, plus Shimoda throws more crisp punches. Ramos was for the most part moving to his right against Valdez to avoid the jab, but Shimoda throws the straight so fast that he'll get tagged either way he moves if he keeps his hands down. However, Ramos won't be facing the variety of punches Valdez provided, as Shimoda mainly throws the jab and the straight left to head and body and that's about it.

Shimoda has had off-nights before, so hopefully he fights like he did against Lee last time out.
