Yep and Evensen and Laryea are two of the worst in history.

Yes, minimumweight at the top - for the most part - has more established fighters than at super featherweight, but I think the super feather division is in its infancy right now with plenty of good fighters at around the same level who are about to try to breakthrough and make it on the world stage. This should make for some exciting fights and establish who are the top boxers in the division. I know the division is lacking in names and credibility right now, but I honestly believe it has plenty of talented fighters who will prove their worth in the next 1-2 years.

Well Lefele's fight with Takayama was seen as an eliminator and he holds a stoppage win over Gideon Buthelezi, who in turn upset Budler last time out. 'Contender' is perhaps too strong a word, but he's up near there.

I honestly think you're off the mark with your comment about minimumweight haveing more depth in prospects. Carlos Ivan Velasquez, Jomthong Chuwattana, Fedor Papazov, Allan Tanada, Yuandale Evans, Dante Jardon, Liam Walsh, Stephen Ormond, Masao Nakamura, Will Tomlinson, Oscar Cortes...Quite a diverse group and they can all fight a bit too!

Argenis Mendez is a worthy contender for me. His win over Honorio may be seen as controversial, but I thought he won it clear enough and it stands as a good win. And although his win over a past it Baloyi doesn't give much credence to his standing in the division, I still think he's a talented fighter that has the ability to be a 'world' champion. His upcoming fight vs. Salgado should be looked upon as a solid positive for the division.

There's a lot of hype for Broner now, and I've been watching his career with interest before his high-profile fights with Ponce and Litzau. I honestly thought his fight with Ponce was close and not as controversial as you perceive and if he just worked that bit more it would have been a clear win for him, IMO. He has bucket loads of talent, especially physically, and if he has the right mentality then he could become a star.

Luis Cruz got a late opportunity against Honorio and took it by winning a close fight. Although not as good as the two aforementioned fighters IMO, he is a big puncher that can add some excitement to the division. Eloy Perez is fortunate to still be undefeated, yet the tough fights he has had throughout his career should put him in good stead. I think he's a decent technician that has the potential to be a 'world' title challenger.

Like I said before, there's no marquee names in the super featherweight division right now, but there is a solid number of contenders who are about to step up and a good collection of prospects that should come to prominence in the next 18 or so months. I see this division being a slow burning one that is about to catch on fire soon.

If it's a good fight, then it's a good fight. Gary Sykes, for me, is the most entertaining fighter in Britain, so of course I'm going to bring him up when I'm discussing the best fights I've seen in the division. Alex Leapai for me is the most entertaining heavyweight around right now, he's no world beater. Ranee Ganoy is one of the most entertaining light welterweights, he's no world beater. Ji Hoon Kim, Dominic Vea, Willie Casey etc. etc. None are going to make an impact on the world stage. Irrespective of there standing in the world scene, if someone asks who are the most entertaining fighters in their divisions, then I'm bringing their names up.

And I know that there are no British fighters at minimumweight, but I don't think that means I should eliminate them from the discussion at super feather?

I haven't seen Budler-Rubillar (in fact, I've looked around for footage of Budler for a while to no avail; if you could point me in the right direction... :good), but Oleydong-Rachman was a good one.

What in the ****ing **** are you on about? :huh

Good post Kos, a lot of good points. I suppose we'll have to do the old cliched line and agree to disagree. I don't think there's much in it, but, as you acknowledged, the fact that strawweight is stronger at the top of the division sways it for me. The fact that a division could potentially good down the line doesn't really come into the realms of my thoughts when comparing the differences of two weight classes, particularly not when there's a difference between the fighters at the top.

For me, what you're describing is a poor division that will be good in the not too distant future, rather than a division that is good already. There's a lack of decent contenders at straw, but there's a lack of decent, proven fighters at 130 full stop for me. I agree that super-feather has better quality in terms of up-and-comers, but what I said was that there was a far greater quantity of them coming through at straw, and I'll stick by that. I see far more fighters rising through the division than we'll see at 130, with a lot of half decent-good fighters scattered around.

I haven't got any information on where to obtain Budler-Rubilar I'm afraid, as when I saw it, it was live.

Oh, and I wholeheartedly disagree on Ponce-Broner being a fight that could've gone either way, but each to their own. I'm probably biased anyways.:yep

I'm more interested Gavin vs Woodhouse as well as Mitchell/Murray and Bellew/McKenzie, Burns is gonna school Cook easy.

I will scream soon enough my good man if the big fights dont come, but Im not buying the bull**** that Nicky Cook is a no hoper, ESPECIALLY with home advantage, & I aint buying the posters who constantly repeat this drivel just so that if Burns wins they can keep on moaning... Cos thats all they are doing, covering their own backs.
Im too long in the tooth to fall for the silly games posters play Decy, simple as that.

In Frank ****** & Billy Nelson I trust with Rickys career though, & Im sure if Ricky wins this fight? It will be a proper 'biggie' soon enough to keep the vultures here happy!

Look at it this way, it hasnt even been a year yet since Burns beat Martinez, so dont you think people are going a bit crazy here? The big fights always take time to make.

& I am sure if you check many other brit boxers records, did they fight all the best in the division within a year of winning their title?;)

Wasn't Cook born in Dagenham? That's quite far away from Liverpool.

    Maccarinelli vs Hobson
    Calzaghe vs Starie

    Were all poor but...

Scott Harrison vs an old, faded, coming-off-4-straight-defeats Steve Robinson gets my vote.

The tragedy for me is that I like Burns and he did well to capture the title from Martinez. I just want to see him in with someone who has a chance of taking it away from him.

Billy, big daddy doesnt deserve that, hes a good guy. He was the man who got Craig McEwan out of his bed in Hollywood many moons ago & got him on his show on Setanta, giving him his big break on british tv.

And he did it cos I was moaning that Craig wasnt getting the coverage he deserved, Bunce is the only big boxing vioce who listens to we the fans, so cut him some slack!
