Max Schmeling or Riddick Bowe: who wins head to head? Who ranks higher all time?

    You're really underestimating Bowe's level of competition and overestimating Schmeling's chin. No, Bowe never fought any atg punchers BUT Cooper, Dokes and Hide were all BIG punchers by modern HW standards.
    Schmeling was hurt badly and KO'd in some cases by far lesser fighters.

    No, I know exactly Bowe´s level competition and it was league´s behing Schmeling´s. :thumbsup

    Bowe wins h2h, and is the greater HW.
    Max Schmeling's win over Joe Louis > than any win of Riddick Bowe's. However, looking at their whole body of work Bowe has a better resume. From 92-95 maybe 96, Bowe is as good as any heavyweight in history.

    yet during this time he did not fight the best heavyweights. Lenox lewis, razor ruddock, mccall, moorer, mercer, frank bruno, morisson and george foreman. thats almost the entire era! Its like saying floyd patterson was the best in the 1950s without facing machen, foley and liston during that time.

    Speed and mobility are all good and well but landing punches effectively is different. Just because Schmelling managed to land the right hand on an off-night with Joe Louis (whose jab that night was so lazy and predictable you'd think he'd borrowed it off Joe Bugner for the evening) that doesn't mean he could vs a much taller man with a far bigger reach than Louis had..and he very likely wouldn't.




    No. Schmelling would end up on the deck looking as pathetic as he did when he won the title. What an embarrassment that was. He obviously got the idea from the Phil Scott-Sharkey fight a few months earlier. :lol:

    Didn't you know that Bowe, Lewis et al, regularly met up for prayers nights where they all thanked the lord that Young Stribling and Paulino Uzcudun didn't fight in the 1990s. :yep

    Oh man, don't put Bowe in the same class as Lewis. He isn't. H2H or otherwise, Riddick is every bit Lennox's inferior.

    I saw, but there had to have been at least some subconscious grouping since those two got the benefit of being named rather than the old "Professor and Maryann" snub (anonymous inclusion of "et al").

    I don't know. Maybe I'm reading too much into it. :yep Do you feel that Bowe rates up there side-by-side with Lewis above "all the rest"?

    Maybe not. But looking at 1990s heavyweights, four do stand out from the pack and he's one clearly one of them. I was just poking fun at the heavyweight division in the late 1920s/early 30s really (post-Tunney) ;)
