Watch this: The footage in this is absolutely top rate. Some great sparring footage against good fighters in here as well as interviews and other tidbits. This especially is one for all the naive souls that think Valero was a crude brawler just because he had a high KO ratio and was ultra aggressive. And because he made mistakes. But otherwise, its just a good watch. I think some of this sparring footage demonstrates the special qualities Valero had that are very rare and how advanced he was thinking. Did everything come off? No. But he was thinking big which is important, and Valero showed that he was capable of some extraordinary things and he would have only got better as he developed. This guy could seamlessly blend between leading and counterpunching, and combined them both into an all out ultra-aggressive style. How many people can you name that do that? He could draw a lead, slip, and counter. People don't tend to notice that amid his blazing combinations but you can see it here. I really believed in this guy, I think he would have been one of the greatest fighters to ever come out of South America. IF he had a proper head on his shoulders. Massive if, he didn't which was extremely unfortunate for all involved with him but lets keep this based purely on boxing. Well yeah, we'd have to assume that. Pacquiao is probably one of the 30 greatest fighters ever and certainly the greatest Asian fighter ever so he's being measured against harsh standards there. :yep Not sure why that fight was so often talked about. More interesting is how Valero would have faced against contenders around him.

The way Arum was talking,the fight would have happened if Valero moved up to 140 and looked good.Valero looked like he was going to fight Lamont Peterson in June/July 2010 aswell.Would have been another great KO for the collection. Big fan of Edwin here and was really looking forward to him moving up and fighting at 140 to see how he would have got on. Valero/Katsidis & Valero/Maidana were my dreams:-(

No way.Edwin had only done 20 rds in his entire career going into that fight and apart from getting dropped he battered a good Champion.
I disagree. It wasn't an easy ride for Valero by an means, and he had some problems (namely early on), but for the most part of that fight he was putting the hurt on Mosquera.
Do you have something against Katsidis? Valero is a horrible look for him on virtually every level imaginable.
Just before his death, I became a huge fan of Valero, so I don't really like to watch these videos about him. I liked his style and attitude a hell of a lot and to see people talk about him in present tense and his potential is pretty depressing. Even when I see a picture or read a thread where he's mentioned, I feel quite sad he's no longer an active fighter. He was the most entertaining 'prospect' I'd seen in my lifetime and, honestly, I think it could be a long time before someone can beat that hype. He was this generations Tony Ayala but more proven. I know he won a world title but I prefer to think of him as a fighter who was in the early stages of his career, hence me calling him a prospect. Of course, I understand why people hate him though I think that hatred has lead to Valero being underrated. When that emotion calms down, people will think about this guy and he will go down as boxings biggest "what if", I think. He had skills, stamina, a chin, the right mentality and immense power. He was probably a once in a lifetime fighter and I'm sad we never got to see him fulfill his potential.
I saw this a few months back, Valero was a legendary gym fighter and theres some excellent sparring footage there. Who knows how good he could have been.
No I like Katsidis but he always comes to fight and even though I think he gets beaten up bad he would still go all out and try to make it interesting.
For 2 rounds he would I honestly believe that would end very quickly. Southpaw, fast, power, not taking a backward step = good night Kat. I think he'd take him out with a counter left.
