Aside from the ones that history has established (i.e. LaMotta-Fox), what, if any, major fights in your lifetime might have been fixed? And what makes you think so?

I know people who still think Tyson-Douglas was fixed -- despite the fact that there was no way anyone could pay Tyson enough to throw the fight to make it worth his while (i.e. no gamblers made big enough wagers to pay Tyson the tens of millions it would have taken to get him to lose -- much less take the kind of beating he took) and there was no rematch for Don King to cash in on to cover that kind of payout. These are casual boxing fans, at best, who just believe for a guy like Tyson to lose to a guy like Douglas there must have been dirty work afoot.

Any fights you're convinced weren't on the up-and-up (aside from the obvious Klitschko poisoning )???

Are we talking about matches where one fighter agreed to take a dive?

Fights where one guy decided to flop and GTFO out of there?

Vitali had a few where the other guy flopped. The Orlin Norris, Mike Acklie, and potentially the Solis fights come to mind.

Page 81 of the Devil and Sonny Liston:

"The biggest of them was the dive Archie Moore took in his 1955 New York title bout with Rocky Marciano. it was Marciano's last fight. and the fix ensured that Marciano would retire undefeated."

...that quote is from nick tosches book and is total nonsense...toshes has been taken apart many time for statements in his other books and nobody who knows anything about this fight gives this no credence whatsoever. take alook at that shot that archie put rocky down with.....no fighter who was going to tank it would land a bomb like that.

i haven't read this quote in a long time and i'm surprised it's still around.

i found several statements in his book about dean martin that i myself was able to prove were just made up and i had others who backed up my "corrections"

And after you look at the shot that put Marciano down, check the haymaker right that Moore threw (and missed) when Rocky got up -- and then make your case for him trying to throw the fight.

The first time I saw the Marciano-Moore fight, what I was amazed at most was the counter-punches Moore landed off the ropes. I thought to myself that his counters were far better than the punches Rocky was landing, but Marciano had that great jaw to go with his punch. No way would a fighter be throwing those beautiful bombs right on the button - especially after previously decking Marciano in the 2nd round - if he was tanking the fight. Pure nonsense. If I was to mention a tainted fight I might say the Hurricane Carter-Holly Mims fight. Of course I don't know the truth in it but I know Mims was a last minute sub and Carter went ballistic when he heard he was fighting a spoiler like Mims. It took Teddy Brenner to reassure him, "Rubin, listen to me, you can't lose!" I believe Mims decked him or hurt him in the fight and that Mims later said, "Even if I wasn't going to win, I had to show them that I was there."

    You are right!!
How on earth did Tim Witherspoon get paid after turning up against Brian Nielsen so disgustingly fat and overweight. That fat slop could hardly walk up the stairs to the ring. That he could go a few round were more tributed to Brian´s lack of knock out punching power than Witherspoons "Courage".

i believe the sharkey fight was against fitzsimmons who had demolished sharkey. the foul the fight was called on was apparently a completely legal body blow (that sent sharkey down hard) but earp called the fight immediately. the obvious placement of the punch make people believe strongly it must have been a fix
