yeh he was avoided like the plague by the European champion at the time. He did fight Taeotoysion who was basically the other best euro 168 fighter around though.

I've slated this matchup...... but I still want burns to win. I want to see him prove himself on the world stage! He's an entertaining fighter and don't give a **** what country he comes from. You seem to have a chip on your shoulder with all due respect.

Same here - I like Ricky Burns and want to see him go as far as he possibly can in the sport. I hope he continues to win, and that includes this Saturday night.

This is often the case, God know how many times the main event has been overshadowed by an undercard fight. I sometimes think fighters get too hyped for the fight with all the pre-fight build up and almost tire themselves out with nerves. The bets performance seem to come from ice-cold fighters who dont give a flying **** about the opponent i.e katsidis/jmm/pac/froch. All the talkers are talking because they have to talk to sell the fight, all action fighters dont need to hype the fight with spiel as they can rely on previous performances.

Best example of the top of my head is Anthony Small, talks the talk but will never walk the walk on a world level he professes to have the calibre of.

Yeah totally, it would not be hard for this fight to be a good one if cook does some nice work and comes in with good condition. I just hope he is interested and that he feels he can win instead of being an 'opponent'.

Haye imo deserves to be hung, drawn and shot for his performance. He simply isn't as good as he thinks he is. Those wins over a shot ruiz, scared audley, an old barrett and the worst heavyweight champ of the last 15 years or so look worse and worse as time goes on. He got beat by a jab pure and simple!

Burns v Cook will easily surpass that fight in terms of excitement! the fact its not pressured with a ppv tag and a £15 cost will also help as fans will excpect far less than the 'biggest fight since lewis v tyson' :)

From what i gather on here, everybody wants Ricky to win. Why can't you digest that? It's like you want Ricky to be hated on here so you can come on and tell us "I told you so" When in reality you have beat a cocaine addict who gets his sniff off Kev Mitchell's mum.

The main I think about is in many years time, once he is retired and thinking back through his career, will he be satisfied?

He has the talent to challenge the elite, but he needs to travel to them and make some noise, like Froch, Hatton.....

The whole idea of being at the peak of your career as a world champion is too fight the best.

I'm sorry but I must disagree, he is having his third fight now against weakened opposition. Thats the facts, no-one can argue there.

With this quality of opponent for him I see him being a classic case 'Stay at Home Fighter', it will just become too easy and his drive will slowly dry out.

I feel as he was going Rico anyway, the drive was there, so therefore he should be willing to travel.

After Cook Ricky will have fought 3 times within a year since winning his world title, not many boxers nowadays on these shores are so active, so give him some credit peeps for at least that:deal

Thats why Im cutting Ricky some slack, & as Alba says, a good 'ole Scotland v Englander dust up, both boys always bring their A game for that. seen someone comparing Cook, a european & world champ to Gary Stretch FFS:patsch nuff said!

However, if Burns comes through the Cook test, I as a proper Burns fan want to see the biggies after this. You wont find me defending him if Frank ****** doesnt pull his finger out of his arse & get Ricky a superfight before hes past his peak...
However, I maintain that the criticism has been TOO MUCH for a fighter who hasnt even been world champ for a year.
