Cooney would get Marvis up against the ropes and brutally KO him. Would have been a good TV fight back in the day.
funny but damn! anyway, i think poor marvis is getting sold a touch short. as someone (whose name escapes me) on the first page pointed out, marvis was a talented boxer and mover in his youth. i think he really had some decent chops and if we're talking pre-brawling marvis (joe i love ya, but your son was NOT the force of nature you were), he's got a real shot.
This is my opinion, adding that Marvis didnt really have a particular punch that landed hard enough to tame Gerry.
I pick Marvis by decision. He competed and defeated opponents at a higher level then Cooney, certainly wouldn't be intimidated and would have the experience to beat the bigger fighters like cooney.
Conney would make short work of Marvis Frazier. Cooney always came out aggressive and firing his heavy artillery. He'd overwhelm Marvis.
If Cooney got to Marvis in the opening two rounds, he takes him out. However, it wouldn't surprise me to see Marvis taking a decision win over Cooney, he did have heart.
The bigger names Marvis beat all let him dictate the pace and fight as he pleased. Cooney most certainly wouldn't do that. No contest; Cooney in two or less.
