Hey guys. My question is, which fighters utilized counters from outside and over the top (namely left-hooks and overhand rights) while moving their heads inwards to avoid a punch? A prime example of this is Donaire's left-hook counter onto Montiel, and the first example that comes to mind of a fighter that uses this method often is Duran. His first fight with SRL in particular, where there's a sequence in which they trade punches and he repeatedly throws from the outside as he attempts to dodge one by ducking inwards. I've also seen it used to the body. I often see opportunities for these watching fights and try to envision them when I shadowbox, but it's not a common method and I was wondering which fighters had this habit in their arsenal.

This is the fighting method i essentially have to use as a 5'9" LHW so I watch a lot of this type. Patterson and Tyson are essential, Frazier and Dempsey as well. Armstrong and Chavez have spectacular overhand rights to watch. Sam Langford is a good one as well.
Frazier is probably the one I've seen use it the most. Tyson, as mentioned is anoher, so is McCallum. Ali liked to slip inside on jabs, letting them go over the right shoulder, bou countering with a right, not a left. Does that count?
Holyfield with the lefthook. Arturro gatti actually had a decent lefthook counter too off the top of my head.
If i hadn't announced my double major this year I would've done area amateur stuff. I do like to spar and train with the pros and ams at my local police boxing gym though.
Similar to the way Mosley slipped inside Mayweather's hook to land the big overhand right? I forgot Ali was also creative in his counters. Frazier & Tyson as well. It seems to be a shorter-mans game, most of the time. I also just remembered that Hopkins does this beautifully when falling in on the inside; tucks his chin real low and rolling with shots as he places his own over them from the outside. Thanks for the responses!
Ok. You must be a pretty solid guy with that height and weight. What do you suppose your match weight would be? I'm a bit of your opposite really. I'm 6' and would be a WW if I competed. Also spar with amateurs now and then, but not with pros (there aren't any around here in Sweden).
I think i'd be real comfortable somewhere over the middleweight limit, probably. I'm in the process of getting myself down to that as we speak anyway.
Mostly like a duran. I used to rock a more tyson esque type peekaboo but i find it hard to jab and feint well from it so i moved to a more mobile joe louis imitation.
