I read that Dave Shade was quite a handful outside of the ring as well. Brawled with cops when drunk, etc. Inside the ring or out, this guy was no easy haul.

John L Sullivan seemed to do most of his fighting in bars.

Roberto Duran cos.........well cos he's bloody Roberto Duran.

Jack Dempsey would be a good bet.

George Foreman is a beast - and he used to street fight a lot when younger.

Sonny Liston - used to break people's legs for the mafia.

There are shitloads of others. Rocky Graziano, Rocky Marciano, Marvin Hagler, Mike Tyson, Nigel Benn.....I could go on!

Good thread though. I like seeing which fighters people reckon would do serious damage on the street! :good

I'll go along with Mysterious Billy Smith and Joe Gans from reputation.

    Add:

George Foreman (old or young, mean as a snake in the ring)
Roberto Duran (ask Ken Buchanan, or Davey Moore, or Lampley for that matter)
Mike Tyson (relished punishing people when he could, dirtiest of them all when he couldn't)

I think you could add George Chuvalo to the mix. You could beat him, but all he did was throw bodyshots and hang tough. An opponent has to be in top shape for George and the result is likely a decision and there is a physical toll to pay. You aren't backing him up much. Guys could end up with bad hands and those punches of his to the shoulders elbows and ribs don't do heavies any good long term.
