Foster vs. Ali - Amateurs?

    I've heard that Foster handed Ali his ass in the amateurs when Ali was quite a bit smaller.

    You see now, Clay?

    I don't know a lot about Foster-Ali in the amateur ranks, but I do know Foster said they messed it up in the Olympics. He was left out while Clay was entered in at light heavyweight and some big dope went in at heavyweight. Foster said he should have gone in at light heavyweight and Clay at heavyweight.

    I never heard that but I've seen film of their pro fight. Foster staggered Ali a few times and cut him. Foster's hand speed was amazing--Ali just overpowered him but got *********. So if they were at the same weight, I could see Foster winning.

    Don't forget that Bob Foster was also in his 20's while Ali was still just a teen.

    I think you are right. Foster threw those twisting shots just like Ali. Both great fighters. Most of the guys who were able to tag Ali did it with looping hooks, which don't tend to cause cuts.
