The 3 judges from Lara-Williams have been suspended by the NJ athletic commission!

This is definitely a step forward for boxing.

 

Has a decision ever been overturned due to bad judging? I wouldn't mind seeing that happen, I'm just curious.

Yeh I have no problem with them investigating and punishing corrupt judges as they ruin the sport.

But they can't overturn a decision .. that would open the flood gates to all or future fights that have a controversial ruling .. which lets be honest in boxing happens more often than most sports.

I believe in justice being done, but sometimes you have to draw the line somewhere.
A rematch should be enforced however.

The slippery slope objection doesn't really strike me as particularly worrisome here. This decision was so bad that it doesn't really warrant being described as controversial in my view, and when cases like this arise, I have no problem with the results being overturned. This result was much closer in my view to Holyfied-Lewis I than the more run-of-the-mill robberies and controversial decisions we've unfortunately become accustomed to. Would you have had a problem with the result of that fight being overturned?

Accusing a judge of corruption on every bad decision is harsh so one better have proof corruption existed. I agree with the rest of what you said.

 

Unless there is another reason for the suspension other than poor scoring the decision, is very wrong on so many levels. To begin with the Judges all sit next to each other and all have a different view perspective than that of the cameras. If we watched the fight from the judges view who is to say we wouldn't have thought Williams connect with more punches than he actually did.

 

How can you say a ref's score was so bad that it warrants suspension but not nullify the results of the contest? Let alone THREE judges in the same contest. You either reinstate the judges and let the results stand or you suspend the three judges and the results of the contest. You simply can't say they were so bad they are suspended and let their results stand. It is an inconsistent finding and makes the commission look even worse.

 

This is obviously great news for boxing. These kind of decisions, which happen too often are ruining boxing.

 

I understand what you are saying but this was blatant....

, another thing to, there are images surfacing of Williams promoter hanging out near one of the judges, they may be reinstated once a investigation is complete but in the mean time. They were A) Severely Incompetent and have no business being Boxing Judges or B) Corrupted, blatantly and gave it to P-Will, in either one of those instances I can't find a more appropriate response than suspending them...
