Any numbers on the Haye-Klit PPV?

Well they didn't sell tickets for the "corners" of the stadium,, I didn't think it looked that empty aside from that though did it?

 

Be lucky if there was 45,000 in the arena that night.

 

Boxing news had the attendance at 37,000. I don't think that was paid but what was actually in the building on the night, plenty of people changed their mind after seeing the weather.

 

Does Wlad ever really sell out these football stadia? Hamburg is his home town, against his biggest challenger who also brought load of fans over and they couldn't (and didn't even try by the looks of it) sell out the stadium.

What hope for Chambers, Peter fights etc?

 

Anything over £1 million buys is excellent and if it got closer to 1.5 mil then then thats really impressive.

Haye really does have leveredge in the sense he brings real money to the table. The Klits know that nobody else in the game can get them this kind of money.

If Haye does carry on and has a tuneup fight it will be very interesting to see if they put it on PPV? If I was him I would go on Sky Sports and rebuild with some impressive victories to as many people as possible on sky sports.

The attendance doesnt really matter if those tickets are paid for. Money already in the bank regardless if they turn up or not.

A few of the Germans I spoke to that day said you could buy tickets right up until the opening bell.

 

There were large banks of seats that by the looks of it hadn't even been put up for sale. Thats not the weather....

 

Boxing used to pull in between 10 and 18 million fans on British TV. It was a top sport.

If Haye had ko'd him it would have been big news for sure.

 

Boxing is good for someone like me who monitors it but there are only a few fights that really get through to the casual joe which prompts the papers, tv etc to take note.

People knew who Bruno, McGuigan, Eubank etc were and they tuned in. Now adays they sort of know of them and don't tune in.

The numbers for Benn vs G Man and Eubank etc are top numbers like 13 mil and 18 mil. God knows how many people in the world watched Ali vs Foreman.

 

I would agree the fight disappointed the casual fan but the casual fan will be back for the next 'huge' fight. Thats what makes them a casual fan.

Where Haye may lose out is those fans who really believed in him. Its not the loss that hurts its the way he lost. I'm a fan and I was pissed at him going out like that.

 

The smaller fights are usually in 15,000-ish arenas. They usually look pretty full, but that's not to say they are, natch.

 

I agree with that, my mate is a casual fan and was txtin me about the weigh in ask if I was there and if he should buy the fight.

I told him yeah it could be explosive, afterwards by the time I got back to my hotel through that ****ing monsoon he txt and said "I ain't buying any more of his ****, he never threw a ****ing punch"

So Haye will have lost a lot of "casual" fans after that.

 

This is what people said to me. Got to work on the monday and plenty people were talking about the fight but all shitting on Haye and how he didnt do anything. These people saW all the pressers and all the talk from Haye and then he goes in there and barely throws a punch. People love to watch big men fight and while both disappointed the onus was on Haye and he ****ed up.

For me no way can a comeback fight be on PPV!!

Then again people said the public were fuming after the Harrison debacle and look they still come back for Haye's next fight.

 

Yeah, you get the doom mongers after every PPV that didn't fulfill expectations but casual fans come back for the next one. Didn't Haye-Harrison "kill" British boxing last year and yet Haye-Wlad gets a "shitload" of buys shortly afterwards?

People have short memories and, for a lot of them, the actual PPV boxing just a part of the night in general. The food, the company, the beer etc, its not the be all and end all for them.
