Hagler : Is he Marvelous or Merely Good ?

Yes. It always amuses me when Leonard gets accused of this. As is remembered,most of us thought that Hagler was n't only going to beat Leonard,but seriously hurt him. Main reason being Ray's ringrustiness. One fight in the previous five years,and that one being three years prior. In recent years,though,a lot of people seem to be under the impression that Marvin had one foot in the grave when they laced them up. He was passed his best,undoubtably,but hardly shot.
Very few now mention Ray's ringrustiness.
The usual form of revisionism,I guess. As it was before and after the George Foreman-Muhammad Ali fight. Beforehand George was the most menacing fighter in history. A superbad hybrid of Joe Louis and Sonny Liston,and Muhammad was over the hill. After the fight,it was all "Foreman fought like an amateur....he needs to improve,technically". They just could n't accept that Muhammad won.
