Most HW champs were gone by Lewis' age, IMO Lewis trained ok and kept himself in decent shape but a laid back Jamaican at heart who doesnt eat perfectly etc all year round, the Klits are lifelong mungbean counters raised in a soviet sports system and that pedantic attention to detail stuff pays off

Didnt Lewis prove in court some years earlier that he was "getting old" in order to get Rahman in the ring for a rematch? Vitali was pretty much peak , about 30/32 whatever with some experience of mainly euro level
Anyway they both did great and Vitali showed mega cojones but he was fighting a past his peak fighter

Always get the feeling that these taller heavie's bodies decline slower or at least it doesn't seem to show noticably in their performance for a longer period than their shorter counterparts.

Former heavyweight champion in "I could beat current fighter" shocker. That's never happened.

Lewis proved one thing.
He proved he could beat Vitaly. He inflicted enough damage with his fists that the fight couldn't continue past half way.

 

I think with guys of that size, with ability, their size allows the to fight longer. Their size advantage never goes away. Lewis at the end of his career was noticeably slower, but had learned to his size to his best advantages.

Vitaly and wlad are the same IMO. they have learnt to maximize their size advantage and use it to their benefit. In fact their entire fighting strategies revolve around it.

Thats not to say all big men can do it - in fact it's quite rare - but when they do it's brutally effective.
