I've seen him flying from one end of the ring to another from full force Bruno punch and he didn't even blink. I've seen Lennox Lewis unload everything on McCall who dropped his hands and he didn't blink. WTF is this man made of?
I think there was really only one period in time when Wlad/Lewis could have realistically happened and that was in early 2001. Wlad deserved a shot after beating Byrd near the end of 2000. Before this Wlad had not done enough to earn a shot and it would have been very interesting indeed had Wlad fought Lewis instead of Rahman. Lewis was in awful condition for that fight and this version of Lewis is the one Lewis I see losing to Wlad. Had this happened Wlad's legacy would be on another level. After early 2001, Lewis was occupied rematching Rahman and making Lewis/Tyson. After that Wlad had lost to Sanders and so was not a viable opponent for Lewis. So the window opportunity for a fight between them was very small, but had it happened the heavyweight landscape would have forever changed.
I agree, If Wlad didnt meltdown it would be quite the jabfest, if they each had 30 fights Lewis would waste him, but current Wlad vs prime Lewis would be interesting
Lewis was clearly not prime. He was the heaviest he had ever been, his loss to Rahman showed he was perhaps not as focused on boxing as he used to be as he had allowed the making of a film to interrupt his normal preparations. Lewis also showed a noticeable loss of hand speed against Tyson. Also simply hitting lifting records is not a good sign of a boxers fitness. 6 months ago I was lifting my heaviest as I was 10kg heavier but I couldn't even run 2 miles without feeling like a dead man walking. I now am lighter, lift a little less but can run 4 miles without difficulty and feel in much better condition now than when I was hitting my heaviest ever lifts.
Saying Wlad would certainly lose to Lennox is foolish. Lennox is right here though, he had more diversity in his arsenal. Wlad has some tools to his advantage though including a better jab and possibly better right hand as well as similar power. Wladimir didn't get his record and his knockouts and his titles and belts for nothing. Overall Lennox possesses most of the advantages but Wladimir has pretty fast hands for a guy his size, an all time great jab, great power, an excellent right hand and a fantastic left hook when he wants to use it. Lennox would probably win though, yes.
Undoubtedly true. Though at least Wlad would have had a great win on his record which is what he really lacks on his resume. A win over Lewis would have done more for his legacy than him dominating this **** poor division for the next 5 years.
Yeah, Like Lewis fought Tua, and many other fighters. Rahman knocked Lewis out cold a KO, a knockout, not a TKO! Vlad has never been KO'd, but Lewis has. McCall TKO'd Lewis. Lewis has "sour grapes" he is jealous that he chickened out of a promise to rematch Vitali, turning down the largest payday of his entire career. I saw how Lewis was outboxed and staggered, he was done, good thing his promoter signaled his doctor to signal his referee to stop the fight without bothering to even inspect Vitali's eye, they saved Lewis, then Lewis never fought again..............
Seriously guys, can you imagine Wlad taking that monster uppercut Vitali absorbed, if he tried to hug Lennox?
If Wlad was offered an opening to Lewis' chin,I could see him knocking him out with his best shot. Similar to McCall and Rahman, but not Vitali who didn't have truly explosive one punch power.
I disagree. I think a shortened career with a win and a loss with Lewis (assuming Lewis took and won the rematch which would have been likely) is worth a lot less than the consistency and longevity that made Wlad the consensus top 25 he is today. Wlad has a myriad of decent and pretty good wins that fluff up his resume alongside the sheer amount of time he's had on top. I'm not sure a win over Lewis that would have most likely been avenged tops that. He could have held his own with any version of Lewis but ultimately would have 7 times out of 10 come up on the short end of the stick in my opinion.
