no they are scored by rounds unless you ko your opponent.

this isn't amateur boxing where each punch is a point.

Lederman's score wasn't unreasonable. A little unkind to Williams but you're meant to call the fight as you see it, not by trying to be "fair" and give someone rounds you don't think they deserved.

The contentious point here is that there's no strong argument for Williams winning more than five rounds. He'd be lucky to get four – he was getting absolutely manhandled and, by the rules of scoring boxing, came off worse in every real sense.

He landed few clean punches (caused no damage), he missed 81% of his shots (ineffective aggression), he was either walking into shots or getting backed up (poor ring generalship) and he was getting clocked by the exact same punch constantly (lack of defence).

The only scoring criteria that Williams could have possibly won that fight with would be "Tall, lanky and African American"...Even then it'd be pretty close...

In a thread about the three judges?

Nothing wrong with Lederman's score. At least he scored by the actual criteria of boxing.

Because it's not JUST about outlanding an opponent. This punch counting thing really misleads people. On the few rounds where Williams did outland Lara, it was by margins of 8, 2, 1 and 2 again, which would give him four rounds by your moronically simple criteria. So there you're at 116-112. Lederman scored 117-111 – which is a perfectly valid score.

Here's why: Williams had to throw DOUBLE the punches Lara did to land a similar amount. His aggression is ineffective and when he did land, he was having little effect on Lara. Conversely, when Lara landed, Williams reacted badly.

So, all you need is one of those rounds where Williams landed an extra two punches and ask who's punches were harder. And they were always Lara's.

It's a fine score, honestly. Giving Williams any more than four rounds is just ridiculous.

Seems I forgot the "Look surprised when you get the decision and give a half-hearted smile" criteria as well. Forgot about that one!

The real question is, why 3 judges would role for one fighter.....??
