That's just how it goes. I remember when Holmes was saying in the 90's he would have beaten Lewis with ease in his prime because Lewis' jab was terrible. I'm sure once Vitali and Wlad retire they will do the same, and they will probably be right based upon the young talent we have at the moment.
With all due respect to Mr. Lewis. I really couldn't see him being anymore effective and varied against Haye, considering he's much slower than Wlad. He would have to settle for the same garbage and outpoint him with his jab. You just aren't going to mix it up against a runner who never throws a punch and flops everytime you cut the ring off or get within punching range, I don't care how determined you are. Throughout his career, Lewis had the benefit of facing slower opponents who would stand in front of him or at the very least press him. Wlad has ran a stinky gauntlet of speedy survival minded spoilers. The only slower fighter who tried to mix it up with Wlad toe to toe in recent years was Tony Thompson, and surprise, surprise, against a less mobile target we saw a great deal of infighting, body work, and varied punching from Wlad. Even goddamn Rahman backpaddled and laid on the ropes in a pathetic turtle shell, not trying to fight back. Wlad certainly doesn't push the issue, but he certainly has overall offensive skills when he needs to call upon them.
Straight dope. Lennox was waaaay better than Wlad. If Lennox were still boxing, it would be him and Vitali ruling the roost. It would be just as boring as it is today, with no one to challenge the top two, but at least Lennie would excitingly KO some of these bums.
some may like it and some may believe it.but i for one dont..lewis wold beat the **** out of holmes..and if wlad and vitali retire im sure they wouldnt and if they did ive got my own eyes ill judge it myself...what anoys me is if they wer to say they would have beat ali and marciano there would be uproar about no respect..wer is there respect?? it works both ways...****ing anoys me..lewis beat vitali..but when your ahead on a scorecard and lose the fight to a cut its bad ****ing luck...and only a biased tit cant take in the fact that lennox ducked the rematch..im a lewis fan and even i can admit it...
You were one of the very, very few who called the Wladimir vs Haye fight right on the money, so I would have to respect your opinion. Where as clowns like H. and Brighton bomber couldn't tell when they had to take a ****.........
Thanks for the props. Amazing how so many posters have attacked me and challenged my knowledge when I actually call MOST fights right on the money when I make a serious prediciton. They just have their agendas and will cling to predictions that can't possibly be proven to further them.
No dumbass, his wingspan is 3 inches longer. Vitali has a smaller wingspan than Lewis or Wlad, but the longest arms of the three. Lewis himself said, Vitali's superior reach was problematic for him. That said, Wlad has short arms but he has very broad low set shoulders, and combined with his height he's tough to get to. Sultan and Haye had longer arms but still couldn't reach him because of that.
With all due respect to you but you talk like you hardly watch Lewis fights. Yes Lewis can be boring at times with his boxing style but he can be a brawler too when he has too or when somebody pissed him off. Between Wlad, Vitali, Lewis of which 3 can ko Haye? it's easily Lewis cause he takes more chances and has a pop like Wlad but Lewis has pop in any style of hands from straight right, right hook, left hook, left hook to the body, right hook to the body. And Lewis is slower? lol.
-No, I'm talking like someone who actually suffered through his reign as it happened. I guess in retrospect it wasn't that bad but honestly, most of us were as bitching as much than as we are now. -I've actually argued Lewis as an underrated "pressure fighter." So I'm not sure where you are coming from. Because I think he would have trouble catching a negative track runner you somehow read "poor offense" or "power" into that? The guys who would catch Haye and spark him out early would be Tyson or Dempsey types who can match his speed and movement. -Lewis is visibly slower than Wlad in terms of hand and footspeed, I think most everyone has accepted that.
Wlad's 26 shoulder to fist Vitali 29.5 shoulder to fist Haye and Sultan were like 27 shoulder to fist Think Lewis is right below Vitali. Vitali has the longest pure reach measured by HBO, and Lewis himself said Vitali had longer arms. Lewis like Wlad, has those low set broad shoulders. Vitali's shoulders are actually very high set and narrow, weird for a man his height and weight.
