Apparently so, but I guess not that far fetched. Valuev has that weird giant build, where his torso and head is elongated but his limbs are much shorter proportion. Poor guy probably has shorter legs than me, no wander injuries are catching up with him.
I think what Steward could be referring to is Wladimir's pure athleticism which might exceed that of Lewis - which is helped by the fact that he always seems fit unlike Lewis who showed up in less than perfect shape now and again. Contrarily, Lewis had the big fights against hall of famers that Wladimir is lacking - and he won against those guys, even stopping some of them. That's how I understand Steward anyway.
Emanuel Steward: "Wladimir is the more talented, Lennox is the more accomplished" very unfortunate for Wlad considering the available quality names now
Mongoose is right while Lewis did have a bigger reach based on wing span, based on armpit to fist Vitali had the longer arms as Lewis measurements were 29 inches from armpit to fist. Which makes Wlad's reach of 26 ridiculously small for his height, is that right, they must be longer than that. :huh
Lennox is pretty spot on here. Still tho I think a prime Wlad vs prime Lewis would be a great fight. Wlad has more power in both hands than Lennox and both can be KO'd. Lennox has the better repertoire and is willing to risk it to get to KO. That fight would not end in a decision! I'd take LL by late KO. A side note, Vitali beats anyone, anytime, anywhere, everytime! This is an undisputed FACT! Just had to get that out...
If its an error they haven't corrected it in years. Haye clearly had the longer arms as well. I think the fact that Wlad's shoulders are set so damn low that it isn't very noticable. Also the reason it appears he has such a big reach advantage sometimes, he can hit you much easier than you can hit him. Taller than Thomson but shoulders are dead even. Thompson's arms 28 inches. Guess build matters more than just numbers, or changes the significance of the numbers, at least. Self-evident in the case of weight, but hadn't thought about that stuff before in relation to height/reach, thanks.
Think it also shows there is more than long arms to a great jab. Wlad's arm reach is not remarkable and he rarely has a significant advantage over his opponent. His speed, accuracy, and footwork is a huge part of his success. Physically, wide shoulders and his stance also helps but he could never just extend his arms out like Lewis and Vitali to control a fight.
So you credit Wlad's success at controlling distance soley to an average 26 inch reach? :rofl He has to work much harder than Vitali and Lewis to keep his opponents at range, and that's evident by watching all three guys fight.
Where did I say solely? I said he has controlled fights just by putting his arm out there and he could do it again. You said he couldn't, you're wrong. You only have to watch the Haye fight to see he controlled Haye a lot of the time by just having the left in his face, it wasn't often he actually landed it.
Haye had longer arms, and this is what happend when Wlad got lazy and just extended his arm. This content is protected
Oh, you mean the Rahman that got launched clear out of the ring by Maskaev, that Rahman? Lewis lost to Rahman badly, totally whipped and K.O'ed.
