I'm noticing a pattern in your posting style.

You seem to have little knowledge of universally known boxers. Calzaghe was an undefeated career super middleweight who has beaten Kessler, Hopkins and a shot Roy Jones Junior.

All of that could have been summarised in one simple sentence:
Joe Calzaghe fought only bums and old men.

The problem is thus: Joe Calzaghe was THE man at 168. He was the standard setter and levels above everybody else in the division for a long time. Unless other notable fighters moved to the division to challenge him, he fought mostly the best of what was there. If Calzaghe wasn't there then we'd have a bunch of guys at the same sort of level like we have in the Super 6 now. It's better for competition and interesting fights but lets face it, the Frochs, Taylors, Abrahams, Johnsons and Greens of this world are no better than some of the also-rans on Calzaghe record. He already beat a prime Kessler. That leaves us with 3 young(ish) fighters who have yet to be tested in Bute, Ward(esp) and I can't actually bring myself to mention the other gutless wonder's name.

He fought the best 'that the WBO ranked'. And I won't say all of this is isn't true, but how was he the standard setter when Ottke was there as well? Not to mention, he unified a couple belts as oposed to Calzaghe holding just the WBO, lowest ranked belt of the majors and the worst rankings.

    Agree with this,

The S6 has been great for the SMW division. However, before the S6 no one rated any of the fighters, but now due to the excellent competition and promotion you have many people (that fall for the hype) rating all/most the S6 above Calzaghe! Crazy!

The S6 has very good fighters who I like to watch, but If Calzaghe had stayed around, entered the S6 and wiped the floor with them all you'd get everyone on here calling Ward, Bute, Froch etc all untested "b class" fighters and there would still be haters!

A major knock on Calzaghe's resume is most of those he defended against did nothing noteworthy before or after fighting calzaghe. That's the WBO ranking for you. Not Joe's fault, but it is what it is. Ottke was defneding and defeating guys ranked by Ring at least.

ottke & calzaghe faced a lot of the same guys...so the standard was similar. calzaghe did a lot better against common opposition tho.

& calzaghe of course won EVERY belt at 168...not just the couple that ottke did.

criticise him if you want...but by the time he left 168 he had definitively proved he was the best at the weight...something you cannot say about ottke.

There's some similar names, but Ottke still faced the better comp overall at 168. Doing better vs. common opponents really doesn't make a difference because of different styles.

Yes he did. But that was at the end of this 168 run. 2 of them came in the last 4 fights.

And I wasnt criticizing him. I prefer him to Ottke by a mile! But just as with many who have held the WBO belt, you face weaker manadtories due to the ranking of the WBO. Ottke's wins over Rink ranked opponents cannot be dismissed so easily.
