Definitely and era rich in punchers. I think that the murder row crew of that period was a particularly hazardous route to the title, but it was the only one open to some people. The fact that Joe Walcott was the only fighter ever to realy establish himself as the undisputable top of this pile is often overlooked.
If you have to criticise a fighter based on fights that he won (let alone by brutal knockout in the fourth round) then your case against them probably isn't verry strong.
I wonder how many of them realize Galento was rated #1 across the board in the same year Louis fought him.

Vitali couldn´t beat an old, over the hill and fat Lewis. Galento was able to knockdown and give a tough night to a prime Louis - who was better than Lewis anyway. Thus Galento > Vitali.
Is that a joke? Lewis was old & slightly too heavy against Vitali, but he was still a devastating H2H machine who would demolish Galento early.
Come allong now. The fight lasted four rounds. Can you think of any case in the past 30 years where a fighter was described as being exposed in a fight that he won by brutal knockout in the fourth round? For most champions since that time, a 4 round destruction of a top 5 ranked contender would be seen as one of the best wins on their resume.
