The difference is that Louis went to the Galento fight looking to kill Galento, which led to him getting hit a few times until accomplishing exactly that, while Klitschko was extremely cautious and was nearly robbed on the cards by a bum judge in Doug Tucker.

I don't think anyone makes Louis out to have been a Willie Pep. Sometimes you go to the extremes in discrediting the man though.

well I think Galento was a better fighter than Ross Purity, Lamon Brewster and Corrie Sanders who the present Champ Vlad lost to. Galento was a cagey guy and despite the talk of hm not being in shape was actually a strong tough puncher. Louis was not a safety first fighter like Vlad (who I think highly of) Louis went after Tony and got caught but Galento was no bum

you think Vlad looked better than Louis vs Galento in the Williamson fight then you are really biased remember Wlliamson was KO'd in 1 rd vs Joe Mesi

I used to dismiss Galento as a fighter but he was a tough strong SOB and before he got too heavy for his height was built like a tank. If only he had a little more skill...like a Tony or Quawi he would've been a terror. Not someone to take lightly when he was at his best.

When Wlad was matched vs a less than skilled guy say Austin or Jefferson, they went out quickly. If Wlad fought Galento there would be an outcry of mis-match! Galento would be quickly out classed, and like the others would not land much, save air or gloves.

Louis was just too stationary, and had poor defensive fundamentals. To clairfy, I feel Louis had either the worst chin or the worst defense ( in some cases both ) of all top 8 champions at heavyweight, and if matched vs more skilled punchers, he would pay for it with more losses on his resume.

    Meh, I don't.

I think Galento would lose head to head against all the above.

Galento would steamroll through Corrie the journeyman Sanders worse than Nate Tubbs did. Brewster had enough trouble with 37 year old C level Kali Meehan, and Purrity was very average

I think it would look more like Sanders-Cooper... and Cooper would kick Galento's ass, too.

Williamson was brutally KO'd by Mesi in about 1minute and change and he was also KO'd by Kali Mehan ....I think Vlad has improved but Galento could have been the wrong fight for him if he replaced Sanders,Brewster, or Purrity

Galento was 5 foot 9, had a 69" inch, poor conditioning and not so good stamina. Sanders, while not possessing great stamina either, had a 78" reach on top of a 6-4 height and great speed of hand. Brewster was 6-2 and had 77" inch. Ross the Boss had 80" reach and was 6-3. It's not always in the measureables but when you lack everything else, sometimes they are brutally unforgiving.

Galento did not have the skill make up for what he lacked in tools. He would never touch any version of Wlad and would have suffered an equal or worse ass kicking than Louis delivered.
