I forgot about the weight difference! :patsch

The 196lb Walcott (Rocky I) stops the 175lb Spinks, but to make it a fair fight, we should use the 199lb Spinks (Holmes I).

Both, the Walcott and the Charles, of their first fights with Marciano would beat the Spinks that beat Holmes. Pretty sure of that.

If they did, it surely wouldn't be easy, Spinks was a cagey, awkward, master boxer.

Of course it wouldn´t be easy. Spinks was a great fighter. Marciano wouldn´t have it easy himself against him.

    Agreed.

Those underrated Marciano legs and that outstanding conditioning he had. He'd force Spinks to punch him off and Spinks was never ever a busy fighter in there. He sure liked his breathers. This opponent is not going to give him any breathers any more than Tyson was going to. When Spinks backs up he'll be smelling this guys breath and absorbing a 2 handed assault. And he doesn't have the physical strength or leverage to do much on the inside.

A lot of people underestimate how effective Marciano was at coming in and closing distance. He was terrific at it and had the ability and balance to punch out of that crouch while moving his feet. I just don't see Spinks landing much from the outside with his jab or hooks or uppercuts even when rocky is closing the gap. He's too low and those punches miss or bounce off the top of his head. What they don't do is stop him in his tracks or thwart the attack. Constant pressure. Once Marciano is inside and not on the outside at the tail end of Spinks punches, Mike is going to get beat up on the inside and he won't shake those kinds of punches off.

My primary pick would be Marciano via mid to late round TKO, but a Spinks decsion is a close second.

Spink's can't be thought to have too much of a chance here.

Charles and Moore were nicely acclimatised to the big boys. They may not have been able to do exactly what Spink's did with Holmes but when it came to tackling every kind of fighter; namely the swarmers and hustlers, they knew what to do.

That would mark the beginning of the problems for Spink's against Marciano who would get close and deliver the type of fight he could neither physically, or mentally digest.

Rocky overpowers spinks in this one. He'd be too strong for him and hit too hard for him. Marciano could take spinks punches but not the other way around.
