I was not Max Baer, but I too killed two men in my long and rugged career.I gave all my opponents hell but I never won the title of my division.A great crowd pleaser and a tough guy. Who am I ?

Taylor won the National Boxing Association Title [NBA],not recognized as a
    World Title.
At any rate, Taylor killed Frankie Jerome in 1924, and in 1926 Clever Sencio died after being kod by Taylor...

Hector Thompson had two opponents die and despite giving Duran and Cervantes trouble failed in his two world title shots.

It's hard not to feel for Hector, i honestly dont know how he kept boxing to be honest, perhaps its all he knew. He was a great fighter, hopefully he can be remembered for more than his misfortunes in the ring.

    He was a star.

His performance against a near prime Duran was super imo as he met him head on,landed some big shots and fell on his sword against an absolute beast of a fighter.

Apparently Duran thought very highly of him as well.

He just came along at a time when two of the best ever fighters in their respective weight classes (Duran and Cervantes) happened to be ruling the roost, he'd be a world champ today without a doubt.

Fitzsimmons only killed Con Riordan. The other one is a myth.

To be honest, Hec didn't even deserve that title shot against Duran. He really hadn't beaten anyone of note to break into the ratings. Moreover, he had not yet reached his peak. A year later was when he came into his own and began beating some top grade opposition such as Alfonso Frazer, Jimmy Heair, Carlos Gimenez and Shinichi Kadota. Of course by that time he was solidly at 140. Also one has to remember is that he left Duran with a very swollen eye. I've always said he was one of the most underrated fighters ever and has always been my choice, despite never winning a world title, as the greatest from down under.

Baer killed Frankie Campbell. Some blamed him for Ernie Schaaf's death, because he gave him a beating, but that is a myth, because Schaaf had three more fights after that, and then in his fourth fight after Baer he fought Carnera, who actually killed Schaaf.
