When you've not watched peak Roy Jones for a while, you forget how amazing he was!

Have been watching a lot of Roy this week, specifically fights from 1993 through to 1998.

Consider how ridiculously good he was back then...

    1993 - Comfortably beat

    1993 - Knocked out

in 6 rounds (Malinga had taken both Benn and Eubank the full distance the previous year, and it was the only stoppage defeat of his career until he was 44 years of age)

    1994 - Blitzed

in 2 rounds (the only stoppage defeat of Tate's entire career, even though he fought on until he was 37 years old, and Tate had gone the full 12 with Julian Jackson (44-1 with 42 KOs) 2 years earlier)

    1994 - Dominated p4p#2

, to take his title and his zero in one of the very best wins of the decade

1997 - Jones faces the first real adversity of his career in 1st fight with

, where Griffin (26-0, holding 2 wins over James Toney) comes in with a gameplan devised by Eddie Futch and superb conditioning and determination, but despite the early round struggles Jones is up on 2 of the 3 cards when he drops Griffin heavily, another stoppage win seems close at hand when Jones makes a fatal mistake and gets DQ'd. In the rematch, Jones obliterates Griffin in 1 round to consolidate his position as the p4p#1, boxing's 'Superman'

1998 - Produces one of the best single-shot bodypunch KOs of all-time to end

in the 4th round. It was the 1st stoppage loss of Hill's long career, he had gone 12 rounds with Dariusz Michalczewski in his previous fight

I defy ANYONE to study these fights and dispute that Jones is the greatest fighter (ability-wise) since Pernell Whitaker. He was mind-blowing!

    :bbb

At his peak he was the closet thing to Michael Jordan in boxing ..He barely took a flush shot and his speed and power in both hands was a thing of beauty !! Wonder if we will ever get someone like that again in boxing ?

I just heard Antonio Tarver just won the IBO Cruiser title that Jones was pursuing, and my thoughts went from happy for Tarver to sad for Jones. Cause you know how much he wants a cruiser belt and it must be killing him to see his rivals having so much sucess late in their caeers. Jones was great and in his prime so much earlier than Tarver, Hopkins, Johnson, hes almost a generation older in ring years. I hope he doesnt get the urge to come back because of this. Greatest fighter of the 90s.

What belt did Jones have in the Skeika and Lacy fights ? Good for Tarver though ..Im sure Jones won't lose sleep over that considering he won a HW title ..If anything I wouldn't be surprise if Jones praises Antonio .

    Since Pernell

    It goes Jones, Mayweather, Pac.:deal

By the way please tell me when pac was at his peak. Was it when he lost to morales, got a gift against Marquez or was it when he knocked out ricky hatton in 2 rounds?

Ability-wise, I think I have RJJ over Manny slightly.

Overall, Pac is the greater fighter though, greater resume and accomplishments.

But the 2008/2009 version of Manny between 135 and 147 is right up there, absolutely dynamite fighter whose skills and ability do not get anywhere near the credit they deserve from so-called 'purists'.

Michalczewski was the Chris Byrd to Jones's Lennox Lewis. :good

So was Carlos Baldomir, when he was in the same division as Floyd Mayweather, Shane Mosley, Miguel Cotto, Antonio Margarito and Paul Williams. I suppose that means at that point he was the best fighter out of all of them... :rofl

great resumes are a reflection of a fighter's ability.
